RESQ (people Saving People)
ResQ-People Saving People is an Italian NGO with the aim of improving the lot of refugees and migrants attempting to cross the Mediterranean Sea to Italy. It was formed in Milan and from an early stage aspired to support a rescue ship sailing off the Italian coast. Among the organisation's staff is Cecilia Strada. The organisation acquired the vessel '' Alan Kurdi'' (formerly the oceanographic vessel ''Professor Albrecht Penck'') in July 2021 and renamed the ship '' Resq People''; it began operating on rescue missions on 7 August 2021. That month, in one operation it brought 166 rescued people to Sicily. On its first mission, ''ResQ People'' rescued initially 85 people, before docking at Syracuse with a total of 166 refugees aboard. Mediterranean Sea
The Mediterranean Sea is a sea connected to the Atlantic Ocean, surrounded by the Mediterranean Basin and almost completely enclosed by land: on the north by Western and Southern Europe and Anatolia, on the south by North Africa, and on the east by the Levant. Cecilia Strada (born 12 March 1979) is an Italian philanthropist and essayist. She is a former president of the NGO Emergency, which provides free medical treatment to the victims of war, poverty and land mines. ''Alan Kurdi'', named after the drowned Syrian child of Kurdish origin, Aylan Kurdi, is a ship which has been used since 2018 by the humanitarian organization Sea-Eye - under the German flag - for the rescue of migrants in the Mediterranean Sea. Before this, she was an oceanographic vessel operated by the Land of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, named ''Professor Albrecht Penck''. Pozzallo
Pozzallo ( scn, Puzzaddu) is a town and ''comune'' in the province of Ragusa, Sicily, southern Italy. Pozzallo is now a major summer tourist destination: as of March 2020, two beaches in Pozzallo hold a Blue Flag award, presented by the FEE and given to beaches which meet strict criteria dealing with water quality, environmental education and information, environmental management, and safety and other services. Very few beaches retain this award in Sicily, including the two located in Pozzallo.
