Québec-Ouest (provincial Electoral District)
Québec-Ouest was a former provincial electoral district in the Capitale-Nationale region of Quebec, Canada. It was located in the general area of Quebec City. It elected members to the Legislative Assembly of Quebec. It was created for the 1867 election. Its final election was in 1962. It disappeared in the 1966 election and its successor electoral district was Louis-Hébert. Capitale-Nationale (; en, National Capital region) is one of the 17 List of Quebec regions, administrative regions of Quebec. It is anchored by the provincial capital, Quebec City, and is largely coextensive with that city's Communauté métropolitaine de Québec, metropolitan area. It has a land area of 18,797.45 km2. It reported a total resident population of 729,997 as of the Canada 2016 Census, with Quebec City having 73.7 percent of the total. Union Nationale (Quebec)
The Union nationale () was a conservative and nationalist provincial political party in Quebec, Canada, that identified with Québécois autonomism. It was created during the Great Depression and held power in Quebec from 1936 to 1939, and from 1944 to 1960 and from 1966 to 1970. The party was founded by Maurice Duplessis, who led it until his death in 1959. The party was often referred to in English as the National Union, especially when it was still an electoral force, by both the media and, at times, the party. History Origin The party started when the Action libérale nationale, a group of dissidents from the Quebec Liberal Party, formed a loose coalition with the Conservative Party of Quebec. In the 1935 Quebec election the two parties agreed to run only one candidate of either party in each riding. Wilfrid Samson
Wilfrid ( – 709 or 710) was an English bishop and saint. Born a Northumbrian noble, he entered religious life as a teenager and studied at Lindisfarne, at Canterbury, in Francia, and at Rome; he returned to Northumbria in about 660, and became the abbot of a newly founded monastery at Ripon. In 664 Wilfrid acted as spokesman for the Roman position at the Synod of Whitby, and became famous for his speech advocating that the Roman method for calculating the date of Easter should be adopted. His success prompted the king's son, Alhfrith, to appoint him Bishop of Northumbria. Wilfrid chose to be consecrated in Gaul because of the lack of what he considered to be validly consecrated bishops in England at that time. Charles Delagrave
Charles Delagrave (17 January 1881 – 25 August 1952) was a Canadian notary and politician. Born in Quebec City, Quebec, Delagrave was educated at the Séminaire de Québec and the Université Laval before becoming a notary in 1903. Joseph Ignatius Power
Joseph Ignatius Power (January 11, 1885 – June 1, 1935) was a Canadian politician and ice hockey player, playing the left wing position for the Quebec Bulldogs from 1902 to 1911, and sitting in the Legislative Assembly of Quebec from 1927 until his death. Early life Power was born in Sillery, Quebec. His father William Power was a member of Parliament in the House of Commons. One brother William Gerard Power was a member of the Legislative Council of Quebec; another, Charles Gavan Power, played professional ice hockey and became a member of Parliament and later a senator; a third brother, James also played professional ice hockey. He was the uncle of Frank Gavan Power, who also became a member of Parliament. John Charles Kaine (1854–1923) was a Quebec politician. He was born in the parish of Notre-Dame de Québec, October 18, 1854, son of John Kaine and Ellen McGowan. John Gabriel Hearn (March 26, 1863 – January 28, 1927) was a businessman and political figure in Quebec. He represented Québec-Ouest in the Legislative Assembly of Quebec from 1900 to 1904 as a Liberal member.
