Quirós
Quirós is a municipality in the Autonomous Community of the Principality of Asturias, Spain. To the southeast is the municipality of Lena, to the south lies the Autonomous Community of León, to the northeast Riosa and Morcín, to the north is Santo Adriano, to the northwest is Proaza, and to the west is Teverga. Castillo de Alba was a notable fortress here in medieval times, today in ruins. Overview The province is within the Cantabrian Mountains and around 30 kilometres from the Asturian capital city of Oviedo. The municipality is a small one, encompassing some 40 towns and villages. Much of the municipality is protected landscape. There are numerous species of flora, including oak trees, chestnut trees, holly, birch trees and groves of alder. Local wildlife includes bears, wolves, foxes, otters, squirrels, wild boars, eagles, vultures and trout. The economy is based on cattle ranching, tourism and farming. Castillo De Alba (Quirós)
Castillo de Alba is a Spanish fortress in Quirós, Asturias, Spain, near the village of Faedo. History It was founded by first Asturian kings to defend the mountain valley from Muslim attacks. In the 12th century it fell into the hands of the rebel Count Gonzalo Peláez, in the reign of Urraca of León and Castile. It subsequently became part of the Church of Oviedo following a donation by Ferdinand II of León Ferdinand II (c. 1137 – 22 January 1188), was a member of the Castilian cadet branch of the House of Ivrea and King of León and Galicia from 1157 until his death. Santo Adriano
Santo Adriano ( Asturian: Santu Adrianu) is a municipality in the Autonomous Community of the Principality of Asturias. It is bordered on the north by Oviedo, on the east by Ribera de Arriba and Morcín, on the south by Quirós and Proaza and on the west by Proaza and Grado. Geography It is one of the smaller municipalities in Asturias in both area and population. Like the majority of the rural areas in Asturias, the population is receding. The highest point in the municipality is Grandamiana, at 813 m. Afterwards are Los Navalones at 756 and El Piantón at 750. Fifty-eight percent of the municipal area is between 400 and 800 meters high. Nearly a quarter of the area has a slope of more than 50%. The lowest point is along the Trubia River, at 140 meters. Teverga
Teverga ( Asturian: Teberga) is a municipality in the Autonomous Community of the Principality of Asturias, Spain. It is bordered on the north by Belmonte de Miranda, Grado, Yernes y Tameza, and Proaza; to the south by León province, to the west by Somiedo and to the east by Quirós and Proaza. Formerly a mining area, now its economy is based on agriculture and emerging tourism. The tourism is based on the area's beauty and historical interest. The peak Sobia is distinguished by its impressive vertical walls of limestone and its flat top. The collegiate church of San Pedro, in a high medieval style, dates from between 1069 and 1076. One can explore the mountains and the 12-km long Huerta Cave, the Senda del Oso bicycle path, or a museum of prehistory.
