Quincy Adams Sawyer
''Quincy Adams Sawyer'' is a 1922 American silent drama film directed by Clarence G. Badger. Distributed by Metro Pictures, the film is written by Bernard McConville, based on the 1900 novel ''Quincy Adams Sawyer and Mason's Corner Folks'', written by Charles Felton Pidgin. The novel had sold over 1.5 million copies at the time, and had had a successful run as a play (written by Justin Adams). (An earlier film version had been made in 1912.) Pidgin went on in later years to write two sequels to his novel due to its immense popularity. The film starred Lon Chaney, Elmo Lincoln, Barbara La Marr, Blanche Sweet, Louise Fazenda and John Bowers. Parts of the 1922 film were shot along the Columbia River in Washington State, and in Del Monte, California. A still exists showing Chaney in a scene from the film. Louise Fazenda
Louise Fazenda (June 17, 1895 – April 17, 1962) was an American film actress, appearing chiefly in silent comedy films. Early life Fazenda was born in her maternal grandparents' house in Lafayette, Indiana, the daughter of merchandise broker Joseph A. Fazenda, who was born in Mexico, and Nelda T. Schilling Fazenda, a Chicago native. She was of Portuguese, French, and Italian descent on her father's side and of German descent on her mother's. The Fazenda family relocated to California, where Joseph Fazenda opened up a grocery store. Louise attended Los Angeles High School and St. Mary's Convent and kept busy with a number of after-school jobs, one of which was delivering groceries for the family business via a horse-drawn wagon. The ''Moving Picture World'' was an influential early trade journal for the American film industry, from 1907 to 1927. An industry powerhouse at its height, ''Moving Picture World'' frequently reiterated its independence from the film studios. In 1911, the magazine bought out ''Views and Film Index''. Its reviews illustrate the standards and tastes of film in its infancy, and shed light on story content in those early days. By 1914, it had a reported circulation of approximately 15,000. The publication was founded by James Petrie (J.P.) Chalmers, Jr. (1866–1912), who began publishing in March 1907 as ''The Moving Picture World and View Photographer''. In December 1927, it was announced that the publication was merging with the ''Exhibitor's Herald'', when it was reported the combined circulation of the papers would be 16,881. Andrew Arbuckle (September 5, 1887 – September 21, 1938) was an American theatre, stage and film actor. He was the brother of Macklyn Arbuckle and cousin of Roscoe Arbuckle, Roscoe "Fatty" Arbuckle. Early life Arbuckle was born in Galveston, Texas, to a family of Scottish Americans, Scottish descent. His brother Macklyn was 20 years old at the time of Andrew's birth. Career Arbuckle first made his film debut in ''Little Mary Sunshine'' (1916), playing Bob's father. Harry Depp (22 February 1883 – 31 March 1957) was an American film actor, silent film pioneer, comedian, agent and real estate investor. Billy Franey
William Gerald Franey (June 23, 1889 – December 6, 1940) was an American film actor. Born in Chicago in 1889, Franey appeared in more than 400 films between 1914 and 1941, mostly playing comedic roles. He was an actor of disheveled appearance and fuzzy mustache, usually in a suit a couple of sizes too big. Gale Henry (April 15, 1893 – June 17, 1972) was an American film actress. A prominent comedian, she appeared in more than 230 films between 1914 and 1933. In 1923, Gale Henry and her husband, Henry East, began training dogs for motion pictures. Spread over two acres on the outer edge of Hollywood, the East kennels trained the most celebrated dog stars in the movies, including Skippy, the terrier who reached stardom as Asta in ''The Thin Man''. June Elvidge (June 30, 1893 – May 1, 1965) was an early 20th-century silent film actress. She was of English and Irish descent. Biography Born in St. Paul, Minnesota, Elvidge attended Pennsylvania College and was a concert singer before she began acting. Victor Potel (October 12, 1889 – March 8, 1947) was an American film character actor who began in the silent era and appeared in more than 430 films in his 38-year career. Career Victor Potel was born in Lafayette, Indiana in 1889, and his acting career goes back almost to the beginning of the commercial film industry in the United States.
