Queensland National Football Association
AFL Queensland (AFLQ) is the governing body of Australian rules football in Queensland. AFL Queensland has over 216,000 participants (including Northern Rivers which is governed by AFLQ) playing at all levels of football from the introductory NAB AFL Auskick program to the AFL Masters Competition. AFL Queensland covers 13 regions, 24 leagues and 159 clubs. Australian Rules Football
Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Points are scored by kicking the oval ball between the central goal posts (worth six points), or between a central and outer post (worth one point, otherwise known as a "behind"). During general play, players may position themselves anywhere on the field and use any part of their bodies to move the ball. The primary methods are kicking, handballing and running with the ball. There are rules on how the ball can be handled; for example, players running with the ball must intermittently bounce or touch it on the ground. Throwing the ball is not allowed, and players must not get caught holding the ball. AFL Wide Bay
The AFL Wide Bay is an amateur Australian rules football competition that was formerly known as the "Bundaberg-Wide Bay Australian Football League", which was formed in 1987 through the merger of the "Bundaberg Australian Football League" and "Wide Bay Australian Football League". The competition currently featured teams from the cities of Bundaberg, Maryborough and Hervey Bay. Teams from Gympie and Pomona played in this competition up until 2006, before changing leagues. The representative team was known as the "Tigers", wearing guernseys similar to those of the Richmond Tigers. The competition was merged into the South East Queensland structure for the 2017 season. It resumed under the banner of AFL Wide Bay once again in 2018. In 2021 it was managed by AFL Queensland. Zane Taylor (footballer)
Zane Taylor (born 28 February 1957) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Geelong Football Club, Geelong in the Australian Football League, Victorian Football League (VFL) during the early 1980s. He spent time as a forward and midfielder during his career but it was as a half back flanker that he made the official "Queensland Team of the Century" in 2003. Although he had only just turned 23 when he started out at Geelong during the 1980 VFL season, Taylor was already a multiple "Best and Fairest" winner for Southport Australian Football Club, Southport. He was suspended after his debut, for two games, having been found guilty of striking Sydney Swans, South Melbourne's Michael Wright (Australian footballer), Michael Wright with a clenched first. Gavin Crosisca
Gavin Crosisca (born 15 September 1968 in Brisbane, Queensland) is a former Australian rules footballer in the VFL/AFL. Debuting in the VFL 1987 with the Collingwood Football Club, Crosisca was recruited from Western Districts Australian Football Club in Queensland after having played his junior football for the Moorooka Roosters AFC. He played in the 1990 premiership side with the Magpies, and played State of Origin football for three teams: Queensland, Victoria and Allies. Crosisca was just the third Queensland born footballer to play 200 games. He retired from the game in 2000. Following his retirement from AFL football, Crosisca has held a number of coaching positions. In 2001 and 2002, he was an assistant coach at the Kangaroos under Denis Pagan, before shifting to Hawthorn in 2003. Wayne A. Stewart (born August 18, 1947 in Cochrane, Canada) is a former AFL and NFL tight end. He grew up in Downey, California, and attended the University of California. He was drafted by the American Football League's New York Jets, 390th overall in the 1969 Common Draft. Marcus Ashcroft
Marcus Ashcroft (born 25 September 1971) is a former professional Australian rules footballer. He played 318 games for the Brisbane Bears/Lions and is currently on the coaching panel of the Gold Coast Football Club. The Marcus Ashcroft Medal, awarded to the player judged best on ground in the QClash football match played between the Brisbane Lions and Gold Coast Football Club, is named after him. Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre (BCEC) is a convention centre in Brisbane, Australia. It is located in South Brisbane and occupies most of the block formed by Grey Street, Melbourne Street, Merivale Street, and Glenelg Street. The centre is owned by South Bank Corporation and managed by ASM Global. Erwin Dornau
Erwin "Doe" Dornau (22 March 1926 – 23 September 2008) was an Australian rules footballer who played with South Melbourne in the Victorian Football League (VFL) during the late 1940s and early 1950s. Dornau was the first born and bred Queenslander in VFL/AFL history. Papers of the time spelled his first name as Irwin. What looked like a promising VFL career was cut short by leg injury. Though he was consistently among South's best talls and was named deputy captain in 1952, his last year at the club. Early life Dornau was born in Brisbane, Queensland and attended Windsor State School, one of just 42 schools in the state where Australian rules was played. Grogan Medal
The Grogan Medal is an Australian rules football award given to the best and fairest player in home and away rounds of each season's Queensland State League (Australian rules football), QAFL/Queensland State League competition. From 2011 to present it is awarded to the best and fairest player in the North East Australian Football League Northern Conference. It was first awarded under the present name in 1946, previously being known as the De Little Medal.
