Queensland Brain Institute
The Queensland Brain Institute (QBI) is an Australian neuroscience research institute, located in Brisbane at the St Lucia campus of The University of Queensland (UQ). Founding director Professor Perry Bartlett established the QBI in 2003 with assistance from The University of Queensland, Queensland State Government, and Chuck Feeney, founder of The Atlantic Philanthropies. The purpose-built facility was commissioned in 2004 and on 19 November 2007, the building was opened by former Queensland Premier Anna Bligh. Since 2015, Professor Pankaj Sah has been Institute director. Professor Helen Cooper is the Deputy Director (Research). Perry Bartlett
Perry Francis Bartlett is an Australian neuroscientist. He was awarded the Florey Medal in 2015. Bartlett first completed studies in dentistry. He later discovered he was more interested in research into the way the brain and immune system work. He went to Johns Hopkins University then University College London before returning to Melbourne. Bartlett worked at the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research from 1978 until 2003, rising to the level of head of the division of Development and Neurobiology. In that time, he predicted the existence of stem cells in the brain in 1982. By 1992, he had identified them in mouse embryos then adult mice, and later isolated them in the forebrain. Australian Institute For Bioengineering And Nanotechnology
The University of Queensland's Australian Institute for Bioengineering and Nanotechnology (AIBN) was established in 2003. It is one of four stand-alone research institutions at the university with more than 500 researchers, students and support staff. The inaugural Director was Peter Gray (2003 – 2015). The institute's second director, Professor Alan Rowan, commenced in 2016. The AIBN is an integrated multi-disciplinary research institute bringing together researchers in the areas of bioengineering and nanotechnology. A honey bee (also spelled honeybee) is a eusocial flying insect within the genus ''Apis'' of the bee clade, all native to Afro-Eurasia. Mandyam Veerambudi Srinivasan
Mandyam Veerambudi Srinivasan AM FRS, also known as "Srini", (born 1948) is an Australian bioengineer and neuroscientist who studies visual systems, particularly those of bees and birds. A faculty member at the University of Queensland, he is a recipient of the Prime Minister's Prize for Science and a fellow of the Australian Academy of Science and the Royal Society (elected 2001). Translational research (also called translation research, translational science, or, when the context is clear, simply translation) is research aimed at translating (converting) results in basic research into results that directly benefit humans. The term is used in science and technology, especially in biology and medical science. As such, translational research forms a subset of applied research. The term has been used most commonly in life-sciences and biotechnology but applies across the spectrum of science and humanities.
