Queensbury Parish, New Brunswick
Queensbury is a civil parish in York County, New Brunswick, Canada. For governance purposes it forms the local service district of the parish of Queensbury, which is a member of Regional Service Commission 11 (RSC11). Origin of name The area was settled by the Queen's Rangers, a Loyalist unit named in honour of Queen Charlotte. History Queensbury was erected in 1786 as one of the original parishes of York County. In 1824 part of Queensbury was included in the newly erected Douglas Parish. In 1835 the boundary between Queensbury and Douglas was moved upriver, removing territory from Queensbury. In 1842 the interior boundary with Douglas was altered. In 1847 four islands in the Saint John River were transferred from Prince William Parish. Big Coac, Little Coac, and Great Bear all appear on the cadastral map of the area; Bloodworth appears as Heustis Island, which was granted to N. Bloodworth. Queensbury Railway Station
Queensbury railway station was a station on the Queensbury lines serving the village of Queensbury, West Yorkshire, England. The station was unusual due to its triangular shape, and at its opening the only other examples of this arrangement were Ambergate station in Derbyshire and Earlestown in Lancashire; since then Shipley station, also in West Yorkshire, has gained platforms on all three sides. Of the stations on the Queensbury lines, this was the most ambitious. History The station was located some distance away from the town itself, and at a considerably lower altitude; Queensbury is one of the highest settlements in England and the station was built at around lower than the village. Access was via a poorly lit footpath. Although the first line through Queensbury opened in 1878, it was not until April 1879 that the original station was built. Queensbury And Shelf Urban District
Queensbury and Shelf was an urban district in the West Riding of Yorkshire from 1937 to 1974. The district was formed by a County Review Order by the amalgamation of Queensbury and Shelf urban districts. Queensbury and Shelf were included in the metropolitan county of West Yorkshire in 1974 under the Local Government Act 1972. Maple Leaf Wrestling was the unofficial name in the 1970s and 1980s of the professional wrestling promotion run by Frank Tunney in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. History Queensbury Athletic Club The promotion, initially known as the Queensbury Athletic Club, traces its roots back to 1930, when it was launched by Jack Corcoran, who had previously promoted boxing in Toronto under the Queensbury name. Initially, Corcoran was involved in a promotional war with rival promoter Ivan Mickailoff, but after Corcoran allied himself with the new Maple Leaf Gardens in 1931, he took control of professional wrestling in Toronto. The Gardens would remain the main venue for the promotion for more than 60 years. The Tunneys take over Corcoran stepped down in 1939 and was bought out by his assistants, John and Frank Tunney. The Queensbury lines was the name given to a number of railway lines in West Yorkshire, England, that linked Bradford, Halifax and Keighley via Queensbury. All the lines were either solely owned by the Great Northern Railway (GNR) or jointly by the GNR and the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway (L&YR). The terrain was extremely challenging for railway construction, and the lines were very expensive to build. Queensbury is a London Underground station in Queensbury, London. It is on the Jubilee line, between Canons Park and Kingsbury stations, and in Travelcard Zone 4. History The station opened on 16 December 1934, two years after the neighbouring stations, as part of the Metropolitan line and with its branch was transferred to the Bakerloo line in 1939, and then the Jubilee line in 1979. The name Queensbury did not, when it was chosen, refer to any pre-existing area. It was coined by analogy with the adjacent Kingsbury station. Most of the locale now known as Queensbury is actually to the north-west of the tube station, in the London Borough of Harrow, just across the borough border from the tube station, which is in the London Borough of Brent. Queensbury is an area of northwest London, England, in the southeast of the London Borough of Harrow on the boundary with the London Borough of Brent. The area is split between four postal districts: Harrow HA3, Stanmore HA7, Edgware HA8, and London NW9. Geography and history The Queensbury suburb was built by Percy Harold Edwards (1886-1937). The name was chosen in a newspaper competition he inaugurated. From 1916 Queensbury was the site of the Stag Lane Aerodrome. Queensbury Tunnel
Queensbury Tunnel is a disused railway tunnel that connects Holmfield and Queensbury in West Yorkshire, England. It was built by the Great Northern Railway (GNR) and, at in length, was the longest on the company's network at the time of its opening in 1878. The line through the tunnel closed in 1956. The tunnel is owned by the Department for Transport and maintained on its behalf by National Highways's Historical Railways Estate (HRE) team. Controversy has surrounded the future of the tunnel for several years. The Queensbury Tunnel Society (QTS), supported by cycling groups, environmental campaigners and two local councils, is seeking to reopen it as part of a greenway linking Bradford and Halifax. However Highways England is progressing plans to abandon the structure due to concerns over its condition; this would result in some sections being infilled.
