Queen City Rocker
''Queen City Rocker'' is a 1986 New Zealand film which was sold by Richard Lymposs, a sixteen-year-old youth with no prior film or writing experience. ''Queen City Rocker'' was bought by Larry Parr (director), Larry Parr a budding Auckland film producer in 1981 and shot in 1985. It was directed by Bruce Morrison, and starred Matthew Hunter, Mark Pilisi and Kim Willoughby. The film is also called "Tearaway". The original story focused on the friendship between two buddies in actual warring gangs of that time in Auckland. No mention of these two gangs were in the film. It is understood the Auckland Street gangs "The Boot Boys" and the "King Cobras" were the inspiration behind this story. In 1979–1981 in Auckland these two warring enemies had vicious street brawls – even in New Zealand's main street, Queen Street, before horror struck late night shoppers, making front-page news of New Zealand papers, where racial issues were often glossed over as harmonious. NZ On Screen is a state-funded online promotional showcase of New Zealand television and film. Funded by NZ On Air, it provides free worldwide access to NZ-produced television, film and music videos. Content is streamed and the webpages provide authoritative background information. The site was launched in October 2008 and is updated constantly. It provides titles in full or as excerpts, with background notes, photographs and profiles of key cast and crew. All material is rights-cleared and there is some content now on the site that had not been seen since its mid-twentieth century screening. The ScreenTalk section is a videoblog with interviews with people from the NZ television and film industry – including Florian Habicht, Rena Owen, Margaret Mahy, Vincent Ward and Sam Neill. Larry Parr (director)
Larry George Parr , a New Zealand film and television producer, writer, and director, has been involved in the New Zealand film industry since the 1970s. Career Parr was an associate producer on '' Sleeping Dogs'' (1977; Roger Donaldson, director), which provided Sam Neill his first major role in a feature film. New Zealand actors Ian Mune and Don Selwyn were also featured; Donna Akersten, Dorothy McKegg, and Davina Whitehouse also had roles. American actor Warren Oates had a small but memorable role, as well. The Director of Photography was Michael Seresin; Alun Bollinger was the gaffer. Stewart Main and Annie Collins were assistant editors; Geoff Murphy was the "Special FX Director." Dorthe Scheffmann and Pat Murphy were production assistants. While a few of these names would have been familiar within New Zealand theatre at the time, this film was a first opportunity to work on a feature-length narrative film for most of the people involved. Martyn Sanderson
Martyn Sanderson (24 February 1938 – 14 October 2009) was a New Zealand actor, director, producer, writer and poet. Sanderson was described as one of the founding fathers of modern theatre in New Zealand. In New Zealand he had appearances in 26 films, but also worked internationally including in Australia and Samoa. Biography Sanderson was born the son of a missionary father and a mother who was a writer, he studied literature at Oxford University, and after a brief study of theology, he abandoned his initial plans of joining the priesthood and a married a ceramic artist, Liz Earth. After returning to his native NZ, he was one of the founders of Downstage Theatre (now the Hannah Playhouse) in 1964 in Wellington, with a vision of a small professional company performing challenging works in an intimate venue, it is now one of the longest serving theatre companies in New Zealand.
