Quatrefoil Library
Quatrefoil Library is a member-supported, 501(c)(3) non-profit library and community center for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community. It is located in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where it was founded by David Irwin and Dick Hewetson in 1983. It is the second LGBT lending library in the United States. In the beginning, it was not only an educational resource center but also a safe space for LGBT people. The library houses over 15,000 books, 7,000 DVDs, a collection of first editions and rare books, and books in braille. It hosts poetry readings, panel discussions, book launches, and other events, open to all. The library celebrated its 30th Anniversary in 2016. ''Lavender'' is a biweekly award-winning print and online magazine, part of Lavender Media, Inc., published in Minneapolis, Minnesota, for the LGBTQ+ community. James Fugaté
James Fugaté (February 13, 1922 – March 28, 1995) was an author and activist in the gay rights movement. Fugaté wrote several works under the pseudonym James Barr. He is well known for his two novels, short stories, a play, and writings in three reputable gay publications. The Wichita State University Libraries has a special collection about Fugaté, including letters, photographs, and other artifacts. Life Fugaté was born in an oilfield boom town and is believed to have worked as a roustabout on an oilfield. He attended college, likely at the University of Oklahoma. In 1942, he joined the United States Navy. After World War II ended, he worked in advertising until publishing his first novel, '' Quatrefoil: A Modern Novel'', in 1950.
