Quart Pot Creek Rail Bridge is a heritage-listed railway bridge at Quart Pot Creek, Stanthorpe, Queensland, Stanthorpe, Southern Downs Region, Queensland, Australia. It was built in 1886. It is also known as the Red Bridge. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 21 October 1992. History The Quart Pot Creek Rail Bridge was constructed in 1886 as part of the former Sydney–Brisbane rail corridor, Brisbane–Sydney interstate rail link.The major impetus to development in Stanthorpe occurred in 1872 with the start of the practice of alluvial tin mining after discoveries of the valuable metal in the area in the mid 1850s. Stanthorpe became the collective name for two townships (“Quart Pot Creek” and “Stannum”) that grew as a result of the mining boom and became the only centre on the pastoral Darling Downs to develop with mining based revenue. Stanthorpe is a rural town and locality in the Southern Downs Region, Queensland, Australia. In the , Stanthorpe had a population of 5,406 people. The area surrounding the town is known as the Granite Belt. Geography Stanthorpe lies on the New England Highway near the New South Wales border from Brisbane via Warwick, north of Tenterfield and 811 m above sea level. Stanthorpe was developed around Quart Pot Creek which meanders from south-east through the centre of town and then out through the south-west, where its confluence with Spring Creek forms the Severn River. Quart Pot Creek forms part of the south-western boundary of the locality, while the Severn River forms part of the south-western boundary. The New England Highway passes through the locality from Applethorpe in the north to Severnlea in the south. Originally it passed through the town centre along the main street, Maryland Street.
