Quality Comics
Quality Comics was an American comic book publishing company which operated from 1937 to 1956 and was a creative, influential force in what historians and fans call the Golden Age of Comic Books. Notable, long-running titles published by Quality include ''Blackhawk (DC Comics), Blackhawk'', ''Feature Comics'', ''G.I. Combat'', ''Heart Throbs'', ''Military Comics''/''Military Comics, Modern Comics'', ''Plastic Man'', ''Police Comics'', ''Smash Comics'', and ''The Spirit''. While most of their titles were published by a company named Comic Magazines, from 1940 onwards all publications bore a logo that included the word "Quality". Notable creators associated with the company included Jack Cole (artist), Jack Cole, Reed Crandall, Will Eisner, Lou Fine, Gill Fox, Paul Gustavson, Bob Powell, and Wally Wood. Jack Cole (artist)
Jack Ralph Cole (December 14, 1914 – August 13, 1958) was an American cartoonist best known for creating the comedic superhero Plastic Man, and his cartoons for ''Playboy'' magazine. He was posthumously inducted into the comic book industry's Jack Kirby Hall of Fame in 1991 and the Will Eisner Award Hall of Fame in 1999. Early life Born in New Castle, Pennsylvania, Cole—the third of six children of a dry goods-store owner and amateur-entertainer father and a former elementary school-teacher mother—was untrained in art except for the Landon School of Illustration and Cartooning correspondence course. At age 17, he bicycled solo cross-country to Los Angeles, California and back. McNaught Syndicate
The McNaught Syndicate was an American newspaper syndicate founded in 1922. It was established by Virgil Venice McNitt (who gave it his name) and Charles V. McAdam. Its best known contents were the columns by Will Rogers and O. O. McIntyre, the ''Dear Abby'' letters section and comic strips, including '' Joe Palooka'' and '' Heathcliff''. It folded in September 1989. History Virgil McNitt (1881–1964) first tried his hand at publishing a magazine, the ''McNaught Magazine'', which failed. He then, in 1910, started the Central Press Association syndication service, with offices in Cleveland, Ohio. In 1920, McNitt founded the Central Press Association of New York City.
