Barbara Quaile
Ida Barbara Helen Quaile (nÊe Renton 28 March 1906 – 15 February 1999) was a Scottish nurse, midwife, Matron of Glasgow Victoria Infirmary and Lady Superintendent of Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. Early life and training Quaile was born in Edinburgh on 28 March 1906, the second child of Ida Sandeman, of the Sandeman port and wine family, and David Renton, a solicitor. She was educated at St Trinnean's School for Girls in Edinburgh where she was Head Girl. In 1927 she began four years of nursing training at Edinburgh's Royal Infirmary and was admitted to the Royal College of Nursing in 1932. A believer in continuing education she went on to gain a Diploma in Nursing from the University of London in 1936, received the Central Midwives' Board for Scotland midwife teachers' qualification in 1939, and in 1946, was registered as a Sister Tutor by the General Nursing Council for Scotland. Mary Quaile
Mary T. Quaile (8 August 1886 – 16 December 1958) was an Irish trade unionist. Born in Dublin, Quaile grew up in Manchester, and left school at the age of twelve. Initially a domestic servant, she soon moved to work in a cafe. While there, Margaret Bondfield visited the city to organise workers. Inspired, Quaile began persuading catering workers in the city to join a union. As a result, in 1911, she was appointed as Assistant Organiser of the Manchester Women's Trade Union Council (WTUC), then later as its Organising Secretary.Cheryl Law, ''Women: A Modern Political Dictionary'', p.127 In 1919, the WTUC became part of Manchester Trades Council, and Quaile became the National Woman Officer of the Dock, Wharf, Riverside and General Labourers' Union, which later became part of the Transport and General Workers' Union. Elizabeth Quaile
Elizabeth Quaile (January 20, 1874 – June 30, 1951) was an American piano pedagogue of Irish birth. A native of Omagh, Quaile emigrated to the United States early in her life; she settled in New York City, and undertook studies with Franklin Robinson before turning to teaching. From 1916 until 1919 she chaired the piano department of the David Mannes School; she then traveled to Paris for more study, taking lessons with Harold Bauer.
