Addilal (exclosure)
Addilal is an exclosure located in the Dogu'a Tembien ''woreda'' of the Tigray Region in Ethiopia. The area has been protected since 1992 by the local community. Timeline * 1992: established as exclosure by the community * 2017: support by the EthioTrees project Environmental characteristics * Area: 145 ha * Average slope gradient: 21% * Aspect: the exclosure is oriented towards the south and the west * Minimum altitude: 2030 metres * Maximum altitude: 2212 metres * Lithology: Antalo Limestone Management As a general rule, cattle ranging and wood harvesting are not allowed. The grasses are harvested once yearly and taken to the homesteads of the village to feed livestock. There are two guards to protect the exclosure. Addi Azmera
Addi Azmera is a ''tabia'' or municipality in the Dogu'a Tembien district of the Tigray Region of Ethiopia. The name refers to good spring rains (“azmera”), in relation to the local microclimate. The ''tabia'' centre is in Tukhul town, located approximately half-way between the ''woreda'' town Hagere Selam and the regional capital Mekelle. Geography The ''tabia'' stretches on both sides of the main road that climbs towards Dogu’a Tembien after passing the bridge on Giba River. The highest location are the upper slopes of Imba Dogu’a (2590 m a.s.l.) and the lowest place along Giba River (1750 m a.s.l.). Tufa is a variety of limestone formed when carbonate minerals precipitate out of water in unheated rivers or lakes. Antalo Limestone
The Antalo Limestone, also known as the Antalo Sequence, is a geological formation in Ethiopia. It is between 300 and 800 metres thick and comprises fossiliferous limestones and marls that were deposited in a reef. Marine microfossils have shown an age between 165 and 150 million years. Name and definition The Antalo Supersequence includes two main stratigraphic units: the Antalo Sequence and the Agula Group. The Antalo Sequence, or Antalo Limestone has been named after the town of Hintalo in Tigray, Ethiopia. Infiltration is the process by which water on the ground surface enters the soil. It is commonly used in both hydrology and soil sciences. The infiltration capacity is defined as the maximum rate of infiltration.
