Queer Lake is a natural lake in Hamilton County, New York, in the United States. The lake was so named on account of its unusual shape. Hamilton County, New York
Hamilton County is a county in the U.S. state of New York. As of the 2020 census, the population was 5,107, making it the least populous county in New York. With an area nearly the size of Delaware, it is the least densely populated county east of the Mississippi River. Its county seat is Lake Pleasant. The county is named after Alexander Hamilton, the only member of the New York State delegation who signed the United States Constitution in 1787 and later the first United States Secretary of the Treasury. The county was created in 1816 and organized in 1847. Hamilton County is one of only two counties that lie entirely within the Adirondack Park (Essex being the other). Because of its location in the park, any development in the county is restricted by the New York State Constitution, which designates the park as "forever wild." Sucker Brook (Canandaigua Lake)
Sucker Brook is a short stream that drains into the northwest corner of Canandaigua Lake, New York, United States. It flows in a hairpin-shaped course from uplands in the town of Canandaigua to the lake, in the eponymous city. The name comes from the white sucker fish abundant in its waters. It may have originally drained into another body of water prior to the formation of the lake, which changed its outlet through stream piracy. Lime dissolved in its waters from the limestone bedrock it flows over creates rare oncolites known locally as "water biscuits' on the north shore of Squaw Island, one of two islands in the 11 Finger Lakes, near its mouth. Long Lake, New York
Long Lake is a town in Hamilton County, New York, United States. The population was 791 at the 2020 census. The town is named for Long Lake, beside which it sits. A census designated place bearing the same name sits within Long Lake, home to 596 of the town's 791 inhabitants. The town is entirely within the Adirondack Park and is the northernmost town in the county. It is a summer tourism destination offering fishing, hiking, boating and swimming. Black Bullhead
The black bullhead or black bullhead catfish (''Ameiurus melas'') is a species of bullhead catfish. Like other bullhead catfish, it has the ability to thrive in waters that are low in oxygen, brackish, turbid and/or very warm. It also has barbels located near its mouth, a broad head, spiny fins, and no scales. It can be identified from other bullheads as the barbels are black, and it has a tan crescent around the tail. Its caudal fin is truncated (squared off at the corners). Like virtually all catfish, it is nocturnal, preferring to feed at night, although young feed during the day. The white sucker (''Catostomus commersonii)'' is a species of freshwater cypriniform fish inhabiting the upper Midwest and Northeast in North America, but it is also found as far south as Georgia and as far west as New Mexico.
