Queensland State Baseball Team
Queensland Rams compete in the Claxton Shield Baseball Championship in Australia. The Rams were one of the founding teams of the Claxton Shield in 1934 and competed as ''Queensland'' until 1988. Between 1988 and 1999, the Claxton Shield was awarded to the winner of the Australian Baseball League. In 1999, the Rams were invited to join the International Baseball League of Australia in which they competed for 2 seasons (1999-2000 and 2002). After this point, the Claxton Shield reverted to a competition similar to that of 1988. History Diamond All-Star Team On 2 December 2008 Baseball Queensland released in honour of the 75th anniversary of the Claxton Shield, an All-Star team. Nominees must have played in at least one Claxton Shield competition between 1934 and 2008. Brett Roneberg
Brett Roneberg (born 5 February 1979 in Sandringham, Victoria) is an Australian former professional baseball player. Career Roneberg spent 11 seasons playing Minor League Baseball, most recently in 2007 was with the Pittsburgh Pirates organization, playing for their Double-A affiliate, the Altoona Curve. His most productive season in the minors came in 2001, when he posted a combined batting average of .287 with 16 home runs and 82 RBI in 137 games for Class A+ Brevard County Manatees and Double-A Class Portland Sea Dogs. Roneberg represented Australia at the 2000 Summer Olympics and batted for a .333 average. In 2004 he was part of the Australian Olympic baseball team, which achieved a silver medal in the baseball tournament at the Athens Olympics. Again he batted well with a .360 average. 2010 Claxton Shield
The 2010 Claxton Shield was the 76th Claxton Shield tournament, the premier baseball competition in Australia, and was held from 6 November 2009 to 7 February 2010. It was hailed as the precursor to the new Australian Baseball League that would start in the place of the Claxton Shield in late 2010 to early 2011. The Victoria Aces defeated South Australia two games to nil in the championship series to win the tournament; this was the 22nd time the Claxton Shield had been awarded to a Victorian team. The competition was sponsored by Domino's Pizza. At the conclusion of the regular season, the Victoria Aces finished in first place with a 17–7 record, earning home-field advantage for the three-game championship series. Phillip Matthew Stockman (born 25 January 1980) is an English born Australian former pitcher in Major League Baseball. Amateur career Although Stockman was born in England, he grew up in Australia and is a graduate of Beenleigh State High School in Brisbane, Australia, and he has represented that country as a member of Australia's national baseball team. While with the team, Stockman won a silver medal at the 2004 Summer Olympics, and he was also a participant in the 2006 World Baseball Classic. Gary Nilsson
Gary Nilsson (born 28 November 1963 in Brisbane, Australia) is a former Australian baseball player who played as a pitcher for the Lakeland Tigers in 1984 and in the Australian Baseball League from 1989 to 1996. He is the brother of former All-Star, Dave Nilsson as well as former minor leaguer Bob Nilsson. His son is Mitch Nilsson, currently contracted to the Cleveland Indians and nephew Jay Nilsson, former Gulf Coast Indians player. He is currently pitching coach for the Brisbane Bandits in the Australian Baseball League. Playing career Gary was signed to the Detroit Tigers in 1983. Bob Nilsson
Robert "Bob" Nilsson was the oldest of the four Nilsson brothers and one of the greatest relievers in the history of Australian baseball leagues. Bob's brother Dave Nilsson was the first Australian All-Star in MLB, his brother Gary Nilsson played in the minors and Ron Nilsson also played in Australia for one year. Bob's son Jay Nilsson began his minor league career in 2006. Bob Nilsson was the first Australian of the modern era to sign a professional contract with an MLB team, inking a deal with the Cincinnati Reds in 1978. Mike Young (born December 21, 1955) is a former Australian cricket team fielding coach, as well as a former US minor league and Australian baseball manager, player and coach. Playing career Young attended the University of Wisconsin-River Falls and he was the team's MVP in 1978.
