Pádraigh Griffin
Pádraigh Griffin (1975 – 22 October 2022) was an Irish Gaelic footballer. At club level he played with Clonakilty and was also a member of the Cork senior football team. Playing career Griffin first played Gaelic football at juvenile and underage levels with Clonakilty. He also lined out as a schoolboy with Clonakilty Community College and won an All-Ireland VSFC title with the Cork vocational schools' team in 1994. Griffin first played for Clonakilty at adult level as a member of the junior team. He was a member of the club's senior team that won the Cork SFC title in 1996, before claiming a second winners' medal in 2009. Griffin's performances at club level earned a call-up to the Cork under-21 team in 1996. He was drafted onto the senior team in 1997. Griffin made a number of appearances in various National League campaigns before being included on the Cork championship team. He also lined out for the junior team. Clonakilty GAA is a Gaelic football and hurling club based in the town and parish of Clonakilty in County Cork, Ireland. It is affiliated to the Carbery division of Cork. It was founded in October 1887. The club is most famous for being from the same town where black pudding is produced. The club currently plays in the Cork Senior Football Championship and has won the title on 9 occasions. Winning in 1939, 1942, 1943, 1944, 1946, 1947, 1952, 1996 and 2009. The National Football League (NFL; ga, Sraith Náisiúnta Peile) is an annual Gaelic football competition between the senior county teams of Ireland plus London. Sponsored by Allianz, it is officially known as the Allianz National Football League. The Gaelic Athletic Association organises the league. The winning team receives the New Ireland Cup, presented by the New Ireland Assurance Company. Clonakilty Gaelic Footballers
Clonakilty (; ), sometimes shortened to Clon, is a town in County Cork, Ireland. The town is located at the head of the tidal Clonakilty Bay. The rural hinterland is used mainly for dairy farming. The town's population as of 2016 was 4,592. The town is a tourism hub in West Cork, and was recognised as the "Best Town in Europe" in 2017, and "Best Place of the Year" in 2017 by the Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland. 2003 Cork Senior Football Championship
The 2003 Cork Senior Football Championship was the 115th staging of the Cork Senior Football Championship since its establishment by the Cork County Board in 1887. The draw for the opening fixtures took place on 8 December 2002. The championship began on 12 October 2003 and ended on 19 October 2003. Nemo Rangers entered the championship as the defending champions, however, they were beaten by Na Piarsaigh in the third round. On 19 October 2003, Castlehaven won the championship following a 1-09 to 1–07 defeat of Clonakilty in the final. This was their third championship title overall and their first title since 1994. O'Donovan Rossa's Jurgen Werner was the championship's top scorer with 0-33. The 1996 Cork Senior Football Championship was the 108th staging of the Cork Senior Football Championship since its establishment by the Cork County Board in 1887. The draw for the opening fixtures took place on 10 December 1995. The championship began on 27 April 1996 and ended on 20 October 1996. Bantry Blues entered the championship as the defending champions, however, they were defeated by Beara at the quarter-final stage. On 20 October 1996, Clonakilty won the championship following a 1–09 to 0–10 defeat of University College Cork in the final. This was their 8th championship title overall and their first title since 1952. Colin Corkery from the Nemo Rangers club was the championship's top scorer with 0-21. Kerry GAA
The Kerry County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA), or Kerry GAA, is one of the 32 county boards of the GAA in Ireland. It is responsible for Gaelic games in County Kerry, and for the Kerry county teams. The Kerry branch of the Gaelic Athletic Association was founded in the year 1888. Football is the dominant sport in the county, with both the men's and women's teams among the strongest in the country at senior level. Pat Griffin
Patrick Griffin (1944 – 29 October 2019) was an Irish sportsperson. He played Gaelic football with his local club Glenbeigh-Glencar and Clonakilty in County Cork and was a member of the Kerry senior inter-county team from 1963 until 1974. Playing career Kerry Senior Griffin was added to the Kerry senior team in advance of the 1963 Munster Championship. He made his first appearance for the team on 14 July 1963 when he came on as a substitute for Vincent Lucey at right corner-forward in the Munster final. Griffin ended the game with a winners' medal following the 1–18 to 3–07 defeat of Cork. On 19 July 1964, Griffin was selected at left wing-forward for the Munster final against Cork. He ended the game with a second Munster Championship medal following the 2–11 to 1–08 victory. All-Ireland Junior Football Championship
The All-Ireland Junior Football Championship is a GAA competition involving four Junior Gaelic football inter-county teams. Prior to a change in competition structure in 2021, the competition was previously for all Junior Gaelic football inter-county teams in Ireland. In this previous format, the definition of what constituted a Junior player differed from county to county. In some, the junior team was the second team after the senior team. This meant that any players who had not played with the senior team could play with the junior team. In others, such as Cork and Kerry, players could only be chosen from clubs that played in junior or intermediate grades. These counties could not choose players from senior clubs, even if they were not on the senior county team. When a team won this championship, it had to pick a new team for the following year. The All-Ireland Senior Football Championship (SFC) ( ga, Craobh Shinsir Peile na hÉireann) is the premier competition in Gaelic football. An annual tournament organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA), it is contested by the county teams in All-Ireland. The first tournament was held in 1887; it has been held every year since 1889.
