The Pyro Plastics Corporation was an American manufacturing company based in Union Township, Union County, New Jersey, Union Township, NJ and popular during the 1950s and 1960s that produced toys and plastic model, plastic scale model, model kits. Some of the scale models manufactured and commercialised by Pyro were model car, cars, motorcycles, model aircraft, aircraft, model ship, ships, and model military vehicle, military vehicles, and model figure, animal and human figures. The company ceased activities after being sold to Life-Like in 1972. History The company was founded in 1939 by William M. Life-Like
Life-Like was a manufacturer of model trains and accessories. In 1960, the company purchased the assets of the defunct Varney Scale Models and began manufacturing model trains and accessories under the name Life-Like in 1970. In 2005 the parent company, Lifoam Industries, LLC, chose to concentrate on their core products and sold their model railroad operations to hobby distributor Wm. K. Walthers. Today, the Life-Like trademark is used by Walthers for HO Scale Buildings. Paint-by-Number
Paint by number or painting by numbers are kits having a board on which light markings to indicate areas to paint, and each area has a number and a corresponding numbered paint to use. The kits come with little compartmentalised boxes where the numbered colour pigments are stored. The users are encouraged to wash the paintbrush every time a new numbered colour is being used. The kits were invented, developed and marketed in 1950 by Max S. Klein, an engineer and owner of the Palmer Paint Company of Detroit, Michigan, and Dan Robbins, a commercial artist. Marcel Jovine
Marcel Jovine (1921 – January 20, 2003), was an Italian-born American sculptor who was best known as the creator of the toys "The Visible Man" and "The Visible Woman". He also created the municipal seal for the Borough of Closter, New Jersey, where he resided. Jovine was born in Castellammare di Stabia, Italy and grew up in Naples, Italy and took courses in drawing while attending the Italian military academy. He was captured in North Africa while serving with the Italian Army. As a prisoner of war in a camp in Pennsylvania, he used his drawing skills to create designs and sculptures. He met his future wife, Angela D'Oro, after having seen her perform on piano for POWs. He returned to the United States to marry D'Oro after he was released following the conclusion of World War II. Lionel, LLC is an American designer and importer of toy trains and model railroads that is headquartered in Concord, North Carolina. Model Products Corporation, usually known by its acronym, MPC, is an American brand and former manufacturing company of plastic scale model kits and pre-assembled promotional models of cars that were popular in the 1960s and 1970s. MPC's main competition was model kits made by AMT, Jo-Han, Revell, and Monogram. Aluminum Model Toys (AMT) is a toy manufacturing brand founded in Troy, Michigan in 1948 by West Gallogly Sr. AMT became known for manufacturing 1/25 scale plastic automobile dealer promotional model cars and friction motor models, and pioneered the annual 3-in-1 model kit buildable in stock, custom, or hot-rod versions.
