Pyramid Mountain (Alberta)
Pyramid Mountain is a mountain in Jasper National Park, Alberta, Canada, named for its pyramid-like shape. James Hector named the mountain in 1859 due to its appearance from the Athabasca River valley on the eastern side of the peak. Part of the Victoria Cross Ranges in the Athabasca River Valley the mountain is in the major headwaters for the Athabasca River. The peak is just under north-west of the town of Jasper. The mountain is a relatively easy scramble on the eastern slopes. These slopes can be reached by following a steep fire road from the parking lot at Pyramid Lake, southeast of the peak. Based on the Köppen climate classification, Pyramid Mountain is located in a subarctic climate zone with cold, snowy winters, and mild summers. Pyramid Mountain is a summit located in British Columbia, Canada. Description Pyramid Mountain is set on the east side of Mamquam Lake in the southwest section of Garibaldi Provincial Park. It is part of the Garibaldi Ranges of the Coast Mountains. It is situated north of Vancouver and southwest of line parent Spire Peaks. Topographic relief is significant as the summit rises 1,020 meters (3,346 feet) above Eanastick Meadows in 1.5 kilometer (0.9 mile). Precipitation runoff from the peak drains to Skookum Creek, thence Mamquam River. The toponym was officially adopted September 7, 1978, by the Geographical Names Board of Canada. Pyramid Mountain is a subglacial mound located on the Murtle Plateau in Wells Gray Provincial Park, east-central British Columbia, Canada. Formation Pyramid Mountain erupted about 12,000 years ago. It was once mistaken for a cinder cone and is now known to have erupted underneath about of glacial ice. The volcano erupted vigorously and cooled rapidly when the hot lava contacted the surrounding ice and melted it, creating an envelope of water around the rising volcano. The result was a cement-like surface with smoothed cobbles of granite, schist, phyllite and other non-volcanic pebbles which were carried by the ice from many kilometers distant. As a result of this type of eruption, Pyramid Mountain has no crater and no lava flows stretching away from its base. The Pyramid Mountains are a 30 mi (48 km) long, mountain range in central-east Hidalgo County, New Mexico. The city of Lordsburg and Interstate 10 lie at its northern border. The range lies between the northeast corner of the north-south Animas Valley on the west and the Playas and Lordsburg valleys to the southeast and northeast respectively. The continental divide passes through the southern end of the range. The Chihuahuan Desert has its northwest extension into the foothills regions of the Pyramid Mountains. Pyramid Mountain is located high above Lake Crescent's north shore. Once known as Sugarloaf Mountain, it received its present name in 1928. It contains the ruins of an old fire lookout at the summit. It dominates the view from Barnes Point and Lake Crescent Lodge. It is accessible by trail from the Spruce Railroad Trail. On a clear day, Mount Baker is visible in the Cascade Range across the Puget Sound. From the summit, it is easy to see the landslide that blocked Indian Creek and dammed Lake Crescent.
