Pynsent Baronets
The Pynsent Baronetcy, of Erthfont in the County of Wiltshire, was a title in the Baronetage of England. It was created on 13 September 1687 for William Pynsent, subsequently Member of Parliament for Devizes. The second Baronet was member of parliament for Taunton. The title became extinct on his death in 1765. Baronetage Of England
Baronets are a rank in the British aristocracy. The current Baronetage of the United Kingdom has replaced the earlier but existing Baronetages of England, Nova Scotia, Ireland, and Great Britain. Baronetage of England (1611–1705) King James I created the hereditary Order of Baronets in England on 22 May 1611, for the settlement of Ireland. He offered the dignity to 200 gentlemen of good birth, with a clear estate of £1,000 a year, on condition that each one should pay a sum equivalent to three years' pay to 30 soldiers at 8d per day per man (total – £1,095) into the King's Exchequer. The Baronetage of England comprises all baronetcies created in the Kingdom of England before the Act of Union in 1707. Sir William Pynsent, 1st Baronet
Sir William Pynsent or Pinsent, 1st Baronet (1642–1719), of Urchfont, Wiltshire, was an English landowner and politician who sat in the House of Commons in 1689. Pynsent was baptised on 10 August 1642, the only son of William Pinsent, Merchant Taylor, of Watling Street, London and his wife Anne Lancelot, daughter of William Lancelot, Mercer, of St Olave, Hart Street, London. His father died in 1643 and he inherited his estate. He matriculated at Oriel College, Oxford in 1655 and was admitted at Lincoln's Inn in 1667. He married by licence dated 4 July 1676, Patience Bond, daughter of John Bond of London. In 1678 he purchased an estate at Urchfont, where he built a house, four miles from Devizes. He was created baronet on 13 September 1687. Pynsent, a dissenter, was recommended for the Commission of the Peace for Wiltshire in 1688, serving as JP until his death. Taunton (UK Parliament Constituency)
Taunton was a constituency represented in the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom and its predecessors from 1295 to 2010, taking its name from the town of Taunton in Somerset. Until 1918, it was a parliamentary borough, electing two Member of Parliaments (MPs) between 1295 and 1885 and one from 1885 to 1918; the name was then transferred to a county constituency, electing one MP. In the boundary changes that came into effect at the general election of 2010, the Boundary Commission for England replaced Taunton with a modified constituency called Taunton Deane, to reflect the district name. Sir William Pynsent, 2nd Baronet
Sir William Pynsent, 2nd Baronet (c. 1679–1765) was a British landowner and politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1715 to 1722. He is commemorated by a tall monument at Curry Rivel, Somerset erected by William Pitt the Elder, to whom he left his entire fortune. Pynsent was the eldest son of Sir William Pynsent, 1st Baronet MP of Urchfont, Wiltshire, and his wife Patience Bond, daughter of John Bond, alderman of London. He married Mary Star, widow of Edmund Star of New Court, and daughter of Thomas Jennings of Burton, Somerset. He succeeded his father in the baronetcy on the death of his father in 1719. Pynsent acquired an estate at Burton through his wife, and after the general election of 1715 was returned on petition as a Whig Member of Parliament for Taunton on 30 August 1715.
