Pygmy Lush
Pygmy Lush (sometimes spelled as one word) is a band from Sterling, Virginia formed by ex-Pg. 99 members Mike and Chris Taylor and Johnny Ward. Other members include Mike Widman and Eric Kane, and previous associated acts include Malady, Mannequin, and Hissing Choir, amongst many others. In 2007, they released an album of previously and newly recorded material on Robotic Empire entitled ''Bitter River''. The songs alternate between two general styles, noise punk and acoustic folk, described by one reviewer as "ramshackle trashy punk rave-ups between beer-soaked bouts of twisted folk”.'' In June 2008, they released their second album, ''Mount Hope'', which was recorded by Kurt Ballou (Converge, who has contributed to most of their releases) of Godcity Studio and released on Lovitt Records. Sterling, Virginia, refers most specifically to a census-designated place (CDP) in Loudoun County, Virginia, United States. The population of the CDP as of the 2010 United States Census was 27,822. ''In Utero, in Tribute, in Entirety'' is a tribute album to Nirvana's 1993 third and final album, ''In Utero'', by various artists. The album was released through Robotic Empire on April 15, 2014, and an exclusive version was released for Record Store Day on April 19, 2014. The compilation, which represents Robotic Empire's 100th release overall and 15th anniversary as a business, took over 7 years to make because of "extended delays and legal wrangling." In the time it took to make the album, Jay Reatard died and These Arms Are Snakes, Thursday and Daughters disbanded (though the latter reformed shortly before the release), making their contributions some of the last music they recorded. An unmastered version of Jay Reatard's "Frances Farmer Will Have Her Revenge on Seattle" leaked online a few years prior to the official release of the album. Converge is an American hardcore punk band formed by vocalist Jacob Bannon and guitarist Kurt Ballou in Salem, Massachusetts in 1990. During the recording of their seminal fourth album ''Jane Doe'', the group became a four-piece with the departure of guitarist Aaron Dalbec and the addition of bassist Nate Newton and drummer Ben Koller. This lineup has remained intact since. They have released nine studio albums, three live albums, and numerous EPs. The band's sound is rooted in hardcore and also features frequent influences from heavy metal. They are considered pioneers of metalcore as well as its subgenre mathcore. Kurt Ballou
Kurt Ballou (born February 1, 1974) is an American musician and producer based in Massachusetts, best known as the guitarist for hardcore punk band Converge and for his prolific recording and production work at his own GodCity Studio. Early and personal life Kurt Ballou started playing saxophone in elementary school. He performed in jazz band, concert band and orchestra, dabbling between baritone saxophone, bassoon and bass clarinet. Ballou was accepted to join the Hartford School of Music, but he opted to study aerospace engineering instead. His father used to have a guitar that Ballou played occasionally, but it did not interest him until a school friend gave him Slayer tapes around the age of sixteen. He is a vegan and follows a straight edge lifestyle. Career Since 1990, Kurt Ballou has played in the metalcore band Converge. From 1996 to 2000 Ballou played in the hardcore punk band The Huguenots.
