Ludvig Puusepp
Ludvig Puusepp (also Pussep or Pousep, rus. Людвиг Мартынович Пуссеп; in Kyiv – 19 October 1942 in Tartu) was an Estonian surgeon and researcher and the world's first professor of neurosurgery. Early life Ludvig Puusepp was born on 3 December 1875 in Kyiv to an Estonian father and a Polish-Czech mother. His father Martin Puusepp was a shoemaker who had migrated from Rakvere, Estonia to St. Petersburg where he met and married Victoria-Stephania Goebel. Puusepp learned German at home and Russian in school; it was not until 1920 at age 44 that he learned the Estonian language. He continued to study languages including French, English and Italian. Career Early Career in Russia Puusepp undertook medical studies at the St. Petersburg Medical Military Academy from 1894 to 1899. Endel Puusepp (russian: Эндель Карлович Пусэп; 1 May 1909 – 18 June 1996) was a Soviet bomber pilot of Estonian origin, who completed over 30 nighttime strategic bombing campaigns during World War II. He was a recipient of the Hero of the Soviet Union award for flying a high-ranking delegation over the front line from Moscow to Washington, D.C. and back to negotiate the opening of the Western Front. Early life Endel Puusepp was born into a family of Estonian peasants who had settled in Yeniseysk Governorate, Siberia, during the Stolypin land reform. Edgar Puusepp (11 September 1911 – 19 December 1982) was an Estonian amateur wrestling, wrestler and wrestling coach. He competed in the Wrestling at the 1936 Summer Olympics – Men's Greco-Roman welterweight, men's Greco-Roman welterweight at the 1936 Summer Olympics, achieving 4th place. He won a silver medal in Greco-Roman wrestling at the 1939 European Wrestling Championships. Career Edgar Puusepp was born in Tallinn to Kaarel and Mai Puusepp (née Luhe). Priidu Puusepp (until 1936 Friedrich Puusepp; February 11, 1887 – November 1, 1972) was an Estonian educator and linguist. Early life and education Priidu Puusepp was born in Võru, the son of Gustav Puusepp (1858–1905), a tailor, and Emma Amalie Puusepp (née Hermann, 1864–1925). In 1905, he graduated from a teacher training program in Valga. Career From 1905 to 1914, Puusepp was a teacher in the rural schools of Võru County and Pärnu County.
