Putnam is an unincorporated community in Putnam County, Illinois, United States. Area codes 815 and 779 are telephone area codes for most of northern Illinois outside the Chicago and Quad Cities areas. It also serves the Joliet area and some of Chicago’s western and northwestern exurbs. 815 was one of the four original Illinois area codes set up in 1947. Henry-Senachwine High School, or HSHS, is a public four-year high school located at 1023 College Street in Henry, Illinois, a village in Marshall County, Illinois, in the Midwestern United States. HSHS serves the communities of Henry and Putnam. The campus is located 30 miles northeast of Peoria, Illinois, and serves a mixed village and rural residential community. Henry is a city in Marshall County, Illinois, United States. The population was 2,464 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Peoria, Illinois Metropolitan Statistical Area. History Henry is named after General James D. Henry, and was initially surveyed in 1834. The topography of the land on the west side of the Illinois River, with relatively steep banks rising well above river level, assured early settlers that their homes would not flood. Illinois Route 29 (IL 29) is a two to four lane state road that runs south from U.S. Route 6/Illinois Route 89 at Spring Valley to U.S. Route 51/Illinois Route 16 at Pana, running through Pekin, Peoria and Springfield. Senachwine Lake
Senachwine Lake is a riparian lake that forms part of the valley of the Illinois River. It is located in Putnam and Marshall counties, Illinois. Its elevation is above sea level. Senachwine Lake is connected by a shallow channel to adjacent Goose Lake, also a backwater lake of the Illinois River. Glacial relic The drainage, by sudden flood, of a sizable lake of glacial meltwater upon the conclusion of the Wisconsin glacial period left the lower Illinois River valley, including the Senachwine Lake area, as a broad ribbon of relatively impermeable clay and silt bordered by low bluffs. During the post-glacial springtimes, as the climate of Illinois grew warmer, floods caused by snowmelt tended to fill sections of the valley faster than it could be drained during the rest of the year. Cortland Condit House
The Cortland Condit House is a historic house located on Center Street in Putnam, Putnam County, Illinois. The house was built in 1849-50 by Cortland Condit, a farmer who came to Putnam County from New York in 1836. Condit founded the community of Putnam, which was originally named Condit in his honor. The Greek Revival house is the oldest brick building in Senachwine Township. The house's front entrance features a portico with square columns and gingerbread-style decoration, while the rear entrance has a brick archway. The house's windows are all six-over-six, as is common in Greek Revival homes. The gable roof features an entablature with cornice returns below its eaves.
