Puthencavu Mathan Tharakan
Mahakavi Puthencavu Mathan Tharakan (born 1903) was a Malayalam poet. Birth and family He was born on 5 September 1903 at Puthencavu, a village in present day Alapuzha district of Kerala, South India, then in Travancore to Kizhakkethalakal Eapen Mathai and Mariamma. He had 2 sons. His son K. M. Tharakan was a chairman of the Kerala Sahitya Akademi, noted critic, writer and novelist. Surviving descendants of Puthencavu Mathan Tharakan, his great grand nephew C. John Mathai and family, currently reside in Alleppey. Education and career His early life was spent in Puthencavu. He was inspired by the work of his great-uncle George Mathan to pursue a career in literature together with academic work. By his own efforts, he was able to pass the Malayalam Vidwan exam and also earned a Master of Arts Degree in Malayalam in 1952, he joined Catholicate College, Pathanamthitta as a lecturer. Puthencavu
Puthencavu is a village in Alappuzha District of Kerala, India, located 2 km east of Chengannur along the southern bank of the river Pamba. The village is around 2 km from Arattupuzha, and can be easily accessed from Chengannur and Arattupuzha. Education Metropolitan Higher Secondary School, run by the Catholicate and MD Schools Corporate Management of the Malakara Orthodox Syrian Church is located at Puthencavu. Transportation Chengannur Railway Station is the nearest railhead, and Cochin International Airport the nearest airport. The Century Multispeciality Hospital is located very near to Puthencavu Junction. Structures The 218-year-old Puthencavu St Mary's Orthodox Church is located in the village. Malayali People
The Malayali people () (also spelt Malayalee and also known by the demonym Keralite) are a Dravidian ethnolinguistic group originating from the present-day state of Kerala in India, occupying its southwestern Malabar coast. They are predominantly native speakers of the Malayalam language, one of the six Classical languages in India. The state of Kerala was created in 1956 through the States Reorganisation Act. Prior to that, since the 1800s existed the Kingdom of Cochin, the Kingdom of Travancore, Malabar District, and South Canara of the British India. Chengannur
Chengannur (also spelled Chengannoor or Chenganur) is a Municipality in the Alappuzha district of Kerala State, India. It is located in the extreme eastern part of the Alappuzha district, on the banks of Pamba River. Chengannur is north of the state capital Thiruvananthapuram on the MC Road (State Highway 1). Chengannur is connected to Kollam and Kottayam by NH 220. Chengannur is noted for the Chengannur Mahadeva Temple (aka 'Dakshina Kailasam' as a major Shiva temple of South India) and its Old Syrian Church of the ancient Syrian Christian community.
