Purificación Ortiz
Purificación Ortiz (Campo de Criptana, 1972) is a paralympic athlete from Spain competing mainly in category F11 (totally blind) long jump and sprint events. She followed this up in 1992 with a new world record on the way to winning gold in the long jump, she also finished second behind compatriot Purificación Santamarta who twice broke the world record in the 100m and finished third in the 200m in a race again won by her compatriot Purificacion Santamarta in a world record time. Paralympic Athletics
Para-athletics is the sport of athletics practised by people with a disability as a disabled sports, parasport. The list of athletics events, athletics events within the parasport are mostly the same as those available to able-bodied people, with two major exceptions in wheelchair racing and the club throw, which are specific to the division. The sport is known by various names, including disability athletics, disabled track and field and Paralympic athletics. Top-level competitors may be called elite athletes with disability. Competitors are typically organised into three broad categories: deaf sports, athletes with a physical disability, and athletes with an intellectual disability.
