PureBlack Racing
PureBlack Racing was launched in July 2010, aiming to become New Zealand's first international UCI ProTour road cycling team. Olympians, professional athletes, business figures, politicians and government agencies from around the country showed strong support for the venture by attending the launch in Auckland. Led by America's Cup yachtsman, Star Class World Champion and Olympian, Carl Williams, PureBlack Racing competed in UCI’s US Continental Tour in 2011 with the ultimate aim of becoming a ProTour Team with entry to the Tour de France by 2015. In December 2011, PureBlack Racing announced the team's proposed race program was in jeopardy due to lack of funding, and they were seeking further sponsorship. Mike Northey
Michael James Northey (born 24 March 1987 in Auckland) is a New Zealand former racing cyclist. He competed for New Zealand at the 2014 Commonwealth Games. In April 2016 Northey announced his retirement from competition due to heart damage he suffered after contracting a virus. After his retirement he remained with his final team , initially in the role of Assistant Team Manager before being promoted to Team Manager. He left the team in 2017 in order to move back to New Zealand with his family. 2011 Tour Of Utah
The 2011 Tour of Utah was the eighth edition of the Tour of Utah. For the first time, the race was included on the UCI America Tour, with a classification of 2.1. As such, the race is only open to teams on the UCI Pro Tour, UCI Professional Continental and UCI Continental circuits. The race took place between August 9–14, 2011 as a six-day, six-stage race, similar to the prior two years. Dion Smith
Dion Smith (born 3 March 1993) is a New Zealand cyclist, who currently rides for UCI WorldTeam . Career Smith was born in Taupaki in Rodney District. He attended Massey High School. In September 2015 it was announced that he would join for the 2016 season. In June 2017, he was named in the startlist for the 2017 Tour de France. In stage six of the race, he was part of the sprint for the finish line and given the same time as the winner, Marcel Kittel. Alexander Ray (born 3 October 1990) is a New Zealand racing cyclist, who currently rides for New Zealand amateur team Mitre 10 MEGA Masterton. Michael Torckler
Michael Torckler (born 12 April 1987) is a New Zealand cyclist, who currently rides for New Zealand amateur team GD Pringle p/b Spoken Cycles. Career During 2012, Torckler was staying at Santa Rosa, California to train for upcoming competitions. On one of his training rides, on 30 June, he was hit by a car coming around a bend. He was thrown off his bike and hit the car windshield, breaking his arm and almost killing him. The driver fled the scene but was later caught and was sentenced to 10 years and four months in prison. Meanwhile, Torckler was airlifted to the nearest hospital, where he arrived in critical condition, close to death. Although he was not brain damaged from the accident, he had no recollection of the accident. He was immediately moved to intensive care, and was discharged after only 12 days. Timothy Gudsell
Timothy Gudsell (born 17 February 1984) is a retired New Zealand track and road racing cyclist who last rode for the PureBlack Racing team. Gudsell turned professional in 2007 and after retiring in 2012 runs a Cycling tour company. Gudsell was educated at Te Awamutu College in Te Awamutu. While at the college he joined the cycling team racing with Peter Latham where they won the New Zealand Secondary Schools National Cycling Championship Team time trial.
