The Punisher (Francis "Frank" Castle, born Castiglione) is an antihero appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. The character was created by writer Gerry Conway and artists John Romita Sr. and Ross Andru. The Punisher made his first appearance in ''The Amazing Spider-Man'' #129 (cover-dated February 1974), originally depicted as an assassin and adversary of the superhero Spider-Man. The character is depicted as an Italian-American vigilante who employs murder, kidnapping, extortion, coercion, threats of violence, and torture in his campaign against crime. ''The Amazing Spider-Man'' #129, with its subtitle being "The Punisher Strikes Twice!" is a 19-page-long single issue of the American comic book ''The Amazing Spider-Man'', published by Marvel Comics in 1974. The issue is well known for being the first appearance of the character called the Punisher, who at that point in time was portrayed as an antagonist of Spider-Man but would later become one of Marvel's most popular and successful characters. The issue is also the first appearance of the Jackal, a supervillain who would go on to become one of Spider-Man's main adversaries and an integral part of the infamous mid-90s Spider-Man storyline the ''Clone Saga''. Punisher War Journal
''The Punisher War Journal'' or ''Punisher War Journal'' is the title of two Marvel Comics comic book book series, series featuring the character Frank Castle, also known as the Punisher. The first volume, published from 1988 in comics, 1988 to 1995 in comics, 1995, was spun off of a self-titled series featuring the vigilante's exploits. After this, the character went through a number of incarnations in Marvel's imprints, such as Marvel Knights and MAX (comics), MAX, that were outside of regular Marvel continuity. ''The Punisher'' is a five-issue comic book limited series published by Marvel Comics in 1986, starring the fictional vigilante the Punisher. It was written by Steven Grant, and illustrated by Mike Zeck and Mike Vosburg. Background In the early 1980s, Grant and Zeck proposed creating a Punisher miniseries. The company was initially uncomfortable with the idea of a protagonist who killed in cold blood. However, as crime increased nationally throughout the decade, Marvel responded by testing the market for such a character and then publishing, though not initially promoting, a miniseries that debuted in January 1986. The Thunderbolts are a fictional antihero team appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. The team consists mostly of reformed supervillains. Publication history The Thunderbolts first appeared in ''The Incredible Hulk'' #449 (January 1997) and were created by Kurt Busiek and Mark Bagley. The Thunderbolts were first presented, both to readers and to the Marvel Universe, as a group of super-powered figures who became heroes to help protect the world when the Avengers were declared dead after the events of the 1996 "Onslaught" crossover. ''The 'Nam'' was a war comic book series detailing the U.S. war in Vietnam from the perspective of active-duty soldiers involved in the conflict. Force Reconnaissance (FORECON) is one of the United States Marine Corps' special operations capable forces (SOC) which supplies military intelligence to the command element of the Marine Air-Ground Task Force (MAGTF). Force Reconnaissance companies unlike USMC division reconnaissance report to the Marine expeditionary force (MEF) and provide direct action and deep reconnaissance during large-scale operations. Savage Avengers
''Savage Avengers'' is an ongoing Marvel Comics series where Conan the Barbarian teams-up with Wolverine, the Punisher, Venom, Elektra, and Doctor Voodoo. There was a preview of the series in the May 2019 Marvel's "Avengers" Free Comic Book Day issue. The premise of their team-up is that these heroes must work together when the evil wizards of Conan's world start trading spells with the Hand in Japan. A second volume was later released that features Conan, Agent Anti-Venom, Black Knight, Cloak and Dagger, Elektra in her Daredevil appearance, and Weapon H in the Hyborian Age where they combat different opponents there and a Deathlok. Ross Andru (; born Rostislav Androuchkevitch, June 15, 1927 – November 9, 1993) Part 1: Animation: We Leave the Army", p. 21. In 1948, Andru's first professional work as a comic strip illustrator was drawing layouts for the ''Tarzan (comics), Tarzan'' newspaper strip.
