''PULP Magazine'' is a Philippine-based monthly music magazine that is published by the Fookien Times Philippines Yearbook Publishing Co. Inc. and which has catered to Filipino music fans in the country and other parts of the world for almost a decade now. History Releasing its first issue in December 13, 1999 with a well-attended street party which closed down the entire Ayala Avenue in Makati Philippines, ''PULP Magazine'' was the brain-child of present Publisher Vernon Go, a former music columnist for local broadsheet ''The Philippine Star'' and himself, formerly a musician (Go was guitarist for a local heavy metal band called Tribulation). PULP Magazine
Pulp magazines (also referred to as "the pulps") were inexpensive fiction magazines that were published from 1896 to the late 1950s. The term "pulp" derives from the cheap wood pulp paper on which the magazines were printed. In contrast, magazines printed on higher-quality paper were called "glossies" or "slicks". The typical pulp magazine had 128 pages; it was wide by high, and thick, with ragged, untrimmed edges. The pulps gave rise to the term pulp fiction in reference to run-of-the-mill, low-quality literature. Pulps were the successors to the penny dreadfuls, dime novels, and short-fiction magazines of the 19th century. Although many respected writers wrote for pulps, the magazines were best known for their lurid, exploitative, and sensational subject matter, even though this was but a small part of what existed in the pulps. Dicta License is a Filipino band formed December 1999, whose music is a fusion of rock, rap, and grunge. This band consists of Pochoy Labog on vocals, Bryan Makasiar on drums, Kelley Mangahas on bass, and Boogie Romero on guitars. The band's name literally translates as "License to Speak," which can be aptly associated with the philosophical cum socio-political tone evident in their songs. Rocksteddy
Rocksteddy is a Filipino rock band signed to 12 Stone Records. History and singles Formerly known as Acoustic Faith, Rocksteddy was founded in March 2003 by fellow church members, a trio of Christian rockers including singer Teddy Corpuz, drummer Jeff Cucullo, and rhythm guitar Howie Ramos. In 2005, they decided to drop the Christian lyricism and acoustic style and turned to alternative rock. Corpuz however did not drop the spoken word element of their former music, which became the signature sound of Rocksteddy. True Faith is a band from the Philippines, formed in 1991. They have become one of the Philippines' most popular and accomplished bands. The band took its name from New Order's 1987 hit single " True Faith", revealing the group's new wave origins. At first, True Faith mined mid-1980s new wave sounds for its breezy pop formula, but the group eventually ventured further into the Philippine mainstream, firmly embracing middle of the road radio. Under the Viva Records label, the band has 13 best-selling albums. Tanya Markova is a Filipino rock band formed in the indie scene in 2006 and went mainstream in 2010.
