''Pulijanmam'' (Malayalam: പുലിജന്മം, English translation : Metamorphosis of a Man to a Tiger ) is a Malayalam feature film directed by Priyanandanan. It stars Murali, Vineeth Kumar, Salim Kumar, Samvrutha Sunil and Sindhu Menon. It was released on 19 May 2006 and won the Swarna Kamal Award for the Best Feature Film in the 54th National Film Awards, 2006. The film was produced by M G Vijay and it was the second directorial venture by Priyanandanan, the first one being Neythukaran released in 2001. The citation for Pulijanmam said it was 'a layered film that uses metaphors to address global and local issues of contemporary society'. Synopsis The film Pulijanmam is based on '' N Prabhakarans play of the same name. N. Prabhakaran is a noted short story writer, novelist, poet, playwright, essayist, educationist, editor and columnist in ''Malayalam''. The eldest of the five children born to N Kunhambu and A Kalliani, Prabhakaran was born at ''Parassinikkadavu'' in ''Kannur'' district of ''Kerala'' on 30 December 1952. Priyanandanan is an Indian Film Director, film and drama director from Kerala. His second movie, ''Pulijanmam,'' received the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in 2006. Biography Priyanandanan is a native of Vallachira in Thrissur District, Kerala. Muraleedharan Pillai, popularly known as Murali ( ml, മുരളി, 25 May 1954 – 6 August 2009) was an Indian film, stage and television actor and author. He mainly appeared in Malayalam films and a few Tamil films and also many other movies. He won the National Film Award for Best Actor for his portrayal of Appa Mestry, a communist freedom fighter and professional weaver in the 2002 film ''Neythukaran''. Santhosh Jogi ( 1975 – 13 April 2010) was an Indian film actor and singer who acted in more than 30 films in Malayalam cinema. He marked his debut in a 2004 Malayalam movie, ''Two Wheeler''. Mullanezhi Neelakandan Namboothiri (1948–2011), popularly known as Mullanezhi, was a Malayalam poet, playwright, lyricist and actor from Thrissur in Kerala state of India. He was awarded the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award twice: in 1995 for the drama ''Samathalam'' and in 2010 for the poetry collection ''Kavitha''.
