Puerto Rico Special Investigations Bureau
The Puerto Rico Special Investigations Bureau (SIB, es, Negociado de Investigaciones Especiales (NIE)) is a division of the Department of Public Safety responsible for investigations relating to organized crime, prison gangs, terrorist groups, gaming and white collar crime, and fugitives. It was created by the ''Bureau of Special Investigations for the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico Act'', Act No. 38 of 13 July 1978 of the Legislative Assembly of Puerto Rico. Executive Branch Of The Government Of Puerto Rico
The executive branch of the government of Puerto Rico is responsible for executing the laws of Puerto Rico, as well as causing them to be executed. Article IV of the Constitution of Puerto Rico vests the executive power on the Governor—whom by its nature forms the executive branch. The Constitution also establishes that the Secretary of State should serve as acting governor when the Governor is unable to perform his duties. The Secretary of State, therefore, performs an equivalent role to that of a Lieutenant Governor in United States politics. The Puerto Rico Chief of Staff is second-in-command and manages and oversees all executive departments and almost all executive agencies. The Legislative Assembly of Puerto Rico ( es, Asamblea Legislativa de Puerto Rico) is the territorial legislature of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, responsible for the legislative branch of the government of Puerto Rico. The Assembly is a bicameral legislature consisting of an upper house, the Senate (Spanish: ''Senado'') normally composed of 27 senators, and the lower house, the House of Representatives (Spanish: ''Cámara de Representantes'') normally consisting of 51 representatives. Eleven members of each house are elected at-large rather than from a specific legislative district with all members being elected for a four-year term without term limits. Law enforcement in Puerto Rico is one of three major components of the criminal justice system of Puerto Rico, along with courts and corrections. The Puerto Rico Department of Justice (PR DOJ) is the Executive Department of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico responsible for the enforcement of the local law in the commonwealth and the administration of justice. The Department is equivalent to the State Bureau of Investigation in many states. The Office of Special Investigations (OSI) of the U.S Justice Department was created in 1979 to identify and expel, from the United States, those who assisted Nazis in persecuting "any person because of race, religion, national origin, or political opinion." This involved gathering, verifying, and presenting in court eyewitness and documentary evidence of decades-old crimes. The evidence was incomplete and scattered around the world.
