Puerto Rico Senatorial District I, also known as the Senatorial District of San Juan, is one of the eight senatorial districts of Puerto Rico. It is currently represented by Nitza Morán (from the New Progressive Party). District profile The Senatorial District I covers all of the capital city of San Juan, as well as Aguas Buenas, and some regions of Guaynabo. It has an approximate population of 462,035. In previous distributions, the territory covered by the Senatorial District I has changed. Originally, the District only covered the capital city of San Juan. In the 1983 redistribution, the San Juan sector of Sabana Llana was assigned to the District of Carolina, but was reassigned to San Juan again in 1991. Puerto Rican General Election, 2012
The 2012 Puerto Rican general elections were held on Tuesday, November 6, 2012 to elect the officials of the Puerto Rican government that would serve for the next four years, most notably the Governor of Puerto Rico. A status referendum was held on the same date. The election was won by then-Senator Alejandro García Padilla (from the Popular Democratic Party), who defeated incumbent Governor Luis Fortuño (from the New Progressive Party) in a close election. Carlos Alberto Díaz Sánchez (born February 6, 1970, in San Juan, Puerto Rico) is a Puerto Rican politician, and former member of the Puerto Rico House of Representatives and Senate. Early years and studies Carlos Díaz was born on February 6, 1970, in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He was raised by single mother Lydia Sánchez Bermúdez, along with her sister Ann Lee, at Las Gladiolas Housing Project in Hato Rey. He studied at Brigham Young University in Utah. Being a practicing Mormon, Díaz did missionary work in Guatemala in 1992. General elections were held in Puerto Rico on Tuesday, November 2, 2004. After a count by the State Commission of Elections, the winner was inaugurated to a four-year term as Governor of Puerto Rico on January 2, 2005. Roberto Arango-Vinent is an American politician who served in the Senate of Puerto Rico from January 2005 until August 2011 representing the San Juan district for the New Progressive Party of Puerto Rico (NPP), which is a conservative group derived from the Republican Statehood Party. Puerto Rican General Election, 2008
The 2008 Puerto Rican general elections were held on Tuesday, November 4, 2008 to elect the officials of the Government of Puerto Rico that would serve for the next four years, most notably the Governor of Puerto Rico. The election was won by incumbent Resident Commissioner of Puerto Rico Luis Fortuño (from the New Progressive Party), who defeated the incumbent Governor, Aníbal Acevedo Vilá (from the Popular Democratic Party). Fortuño received 1,025,965 votes, and Acevedo Vilá 801,071. Also, most of the other positions were won by the candidates of the New Progressive Party, who ended up with a majority of seats in the Senate and the House of Representatives.
