Puerto Rico Olympic Committee
The Puerto Rico Olympic Committee (COPUR, es, Comité Olímpico de Puerto Rico) is the National Olympic Committee for Puerto Rico. It oversees Olympic-sports in Puerto Rico, and selects the Olympic team which represents the island. It was founded by Julio Enrique Monagas, and was officially recognized in 1948. COPUR operates the ''Casa Olímpica'', its headquarters in Old San Juan. Teams representing Puerto Rico have participated in every Summer Olympics since 1948. They have also participated at the 1984–2002 and 2018 Winter Olympics. In 2012, Sara Rosario became the first woman to serve as President of the COPUR. San Juan, Puerto Rico
San Juan (, , ; Spanish for "Saint John") is the capital city and most populous municipality in the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, an unincorporated territory of the United States. National Olympic Committees
A National Olympic Committee (NOC) is a national constituent of the worldwide Olympic movement. Subject to the controls of the International Olympic Committee, NOCs are responsible for organizing their people's participation in the Olympic Games. They may nominate cities within their respective areas as candidates for future Olympic Games. NOCs also promote the development of athletes and the training of coaches and officials at a national level within their geographies. David Enrique "Quique" Bernier Rivera (; born January 21, 1977) is a Puerto Rican dentist and politician that has served in various roles in public service in Puerto Rico. Bernier first served as executive director of the Office of Youth Affairs of Puerto Rico and was later confirmed as the youngest Secretary of Sports and Recreation of Puerto Rico in history. Four years later, he was unanimously confirmed as Secretary of State of Puerto Rico for the administration of Alejandro García Padilla. He was the 2016 candidate for Governor of Puerto Rico of the Popular Democratic Party. Héctor Cardona
Héctor Francisco Cardona González (April 19, 1936 – June 16, 2017) was a Puerto Rican sports executive who served as the longtime President of the Puerto Rico Olympic Committee (COPUR) from 1991 until 2008, as well as the executive vice-president of International Amateur Boxing Association. He was serving as the President of the Central American and Caribbean Sports Organization (CASCO) at the time of his death in June 2017. Most recently, Cardona was unanimously re-elected to a fourth term as President of CACSO by the 46th CACSO General Assembly in November 2015. Cardona was born on April 19, 1936, in Naguabo, Puerto Rico. Germán Rieckehoff
Germán Rieckehoff (February 5, 1915 – September 2, 1997) was a Nationalist and later President of Puerto Rican Olympic Committee. Early years Rieckehoff (birth name: Germán Rieckehoff Sampayo) was born in Vieques, Puerto Rico. He was raised in a smallholding, homestead owned by his parents. His parents, who were descendants of German immigration to Puerto Rico, German immigrants who settled in the island, were poor farmers (Jíbaro (Puerto Rico), Jíbaros) who provided him with his basic needs and a good education. A relative, Carlos Vélez Rieckehoff, was an important leader of the Puerto Rican Nationalist Party and he followed the cause of independence himself. Rieckehoff was an athletic youth and when young he was an expert human swimming, swimmer. José Enrique Arrarás Mir (born 25 September 1937) is a Puerto Rican politician and former member of the Legislative Assembly of Puerto Rico. Early life Arrarás was born in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico. He obtained his primary and secondary education at Immaculate Conception Academy in Mayagüez and Mercersburg Academy in Mercersburg, Pennsylvania. Jaime Annexy Fajardo (11 December 1927 in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico – 8 August 2000 in Tarpon Springs, Florida) was a Puerto Rican hammer thrower who competed in the 1952 Summer Olympics.
