Puerto Rico Highway 102
Puerto Rico Highway 102 (PR-102) is a main highway in the southwestern portion of the Porta del Sol region of Puerto Rico. It begins at Puerto Rico Highway 2 north of central Mayagüez and runs through the municipalities of Cabo Rojo and San Germán, coming to an end in downtown Sabana Grande. Route description Mayagüez PR-102 begins as a short two-lane road at an intersection with north of the Mar y Sol neighborhood. The road travels southwest down a relatively steep slope for approximately 0.23 miles where it comes to an intersection with the six-lane, north–south, arterial Avenida Comercio/ PR-64 and the secondary, east–west, Calle Concordia/ PR-3342. PR-102 replaces PR-64 southbound into where it runs through the Concordia Public Housing Complex until reaching a crossing at Yagüez River where it enters the industrial area immediately west of central Mayagüez. Miradero is a Barrios of Puerto Rico, barrio in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico. The US census of 2010 reports a population of 5,724. The total land area the barrio is about . It is one of fifteen rural inland barrios of Mayagüez. History Miradero was in Spain's gazetteers until Puerto Rico was ceded by Spain in the aftermath of the Spanish–American War under the terms of the Treaty of Paris of 1898 and became an Insular area, unincorporated territory of the United States. In 1899, the United States Department of War conducted a census of Puerto Rico finding that the population of Miradero was 1,268. The name means vantage point, or lookout. The rural barrio of Miradero, today more suburban, next to the city suggests and describes a place to see and admire. The name makes reference to the panoramic vistas of the city of Mayagüez and its bay of Mayagüez, bay and the Mona passage. Porta del Sol is a tourism region in western Puerto Rico. It consists of 17 municipalities in the western area: Quebradillas, Isabela, San Sebastián, Moca, Aguadilla, Aguada, Rincón, Añasco, Mayagüez, Las Marías, Maricao, Hormigueros, San Germán, Sábana Grande, Guánica, Lajas and Cabo Rojo. Yagüez River
The Yagüez River ( es, Río Yagüez) is a river located in western Puerto Rico. The Yagüez originates at above sea-level in the Urayoán Mountains to the southeast of Las Marias and to the northeast of Maricao. From its inception the river runs roughly east to west for emptying into Mayagüez Bay just west of downtown Mayagüez next to the northern part of the Parque del Litoral. During its course, the river traverses the Mayagüez Reservoir located between the Bateyes and Limón barrios of Mayagüez. To protect against flash flooding, the river is canalized throughout the majority of its path through Mayagüez's urban core.
