Puccini (film)
''Puccini '' is a 1953 Italian biographical musical melodrama film directed by Carmine Gallone. It stars actor Gabriele Ferzetti in the role of Giacomo Puccini. Plot The film narrates the composer's life full of loves and recklessness, starting from the youthful period in which, after falling in love with Cristina who had helped him achieve success, he convinces Elvira, a mild-mannered girl from the provinces, to follow him to Milan. Elvira soon gives him a son and remains close to him despite her betrayals. Cristina, who has now become a famous soprano, reappears again in the life of the master and tries to distance him from her partner but, after the triumph of La bohème, driven by her gratitude towards Elvira, Giacomo decides to marry her. This does not mean that her infidelities end and Elvira, increasingly alone, decides to separate from her husband. Carmine Gallone
Carmine Gallone (10 September 1885 – 11 March 1973) was an early Italian film director, screenwriter, and film producer, who was also controversial for his works of pro-Fascist propaganda and historical revisionism. Considered one of Italian cinema's leading early directors, he directed over 120 films in his fifty-year career between 1913 and 1963. Giuseppe Giacosa (21 October 1847 – 1 September 1906) was an Italian poet, playwright and librettist. Life He was born in Colleretto Parella, now Colleretto Giacosa, near Turin. His father was a magistrate. Giuseppe went to the University of Turin, studying in the University of Turin, Faculty of Law. Though he gained a degree in law, he did not pursue a legal career. He gained initial fame for his play ''Una Partita a Scacchi'' ("A Game of Chess") in 1871. His main field was playwriting, which he accomplished with both insight and simplicity, using subjects set in Piedmont and themes addressing contemporary bourgeois values. Ferdinando Fontana
Ferdinando Fontana (30 January 1850 – 10 May 1919) was an Italian journalist, dramatist, and poet. He is best known today for having written the libretti of the first two operas by Giacomo Puccini – ''Le Villi'' and '' Edgar''. Biography Born at Milan into a family of artists - both his father Carlo and his brother Roberto were painters - he entered a Barnabite school at the age of seven and then went on to study at the Collegio Zambelli. He was forced to abandon his studies while still young to provide for himself and his two younger sisters following the death of their mother.
