Southeastern High School of Technology and Law is a public coeducational secondary school in Detroit, Michigan, United States. It is operated by the Detroit Public Schools. DPS will resume control of Southeastern High in fall 2017. History Southeastern High School opened its doors on January 2, 1917. The school was built in a semi-rural area that had recently become a part of the city of Detroit. When the school was built, it was so removed from the central city of Detroit that it was considered to be out in the jungle, which was the origin of the school's nickname, the "Jungaleers". Southeastern High School's enrollment following World War II was among the highest of any high school in the state. Even as recently as 2008, its enrollment was 2,428. Northeastern High School (Michigan)
Northeastern High School was a public coeducational high school in Detroit, Michigan. It was a member of the Detroit Public Schools and was located on Grandy Street between Warren Avenue and Forest Avenue on the city's northeast side. The school competed athletically in the Detroit Public School League and was a member of the Michigan High School Athletic Association. In 1975, the school won the MHSAA girls state basketball championship. In early 1982, it was announced that Northeastern was one of 19 Detroit schools listed for closure. It closed later that year. Mackenzie High School (Michigan)
Mackenzie High School was a public high school in Detroit, Michigan. History Located on Detroit's west side, Mackenzie High School was named to honor David D. Mackenzie, who had served as principal of Central High School, and as first dean of the city college that would become Wayne State University. Mackenzie High School was among the first schools constructed on land acquired through Detroit's westernmost annexation efforts in Greenfield Township; by 1926 the township had ceased to exist. Adorned in blue and yellow tile from the Pewabic Pottery Works, the three-story facility opened in September 1928. In an effort to make efficient use of available classrooms, the school's early history featured a full range of grade levels – elementary through secondary. The school was demolished in June of 2012. Kettering High School
Kettering High School was a four-year high school within the Detroit Public Schools system. The school, located in the low-income Gratiot Town/Kettering neighborhood, was around 1,200 students under capacity at its closure in 2012. History Kettering opened in 1965 in response to the growing Detroit Public School system (DPS) and to serve the needs of factory workers and their families in east Detroit. The school is named after Charles F. Kettering, co-founder of DELCO and head of research at General Motors for 27 years. Construction began in 1961 with removal of housing on the land where Kettering would stand, but due to financial difficulties and worker strikes, the school did not open until fall 1965. The school was compliant with desegregation efforts from the start. Additional classrooms and the gym were built between 1967 and 1969; a pool was planned but was delayed until 1975 by ''Milliken v. Cooley High School
Thomas M. Cooley High School is located at the intersection of Hubbell Avenue and Chalfonte Street, on the northwest side of Detroit, Michigan. The three-story, Mediterranean Revival-style facility opened its doors on September 4, 1928. The school was named in honor of Thomas M. Cooley, a nineteenth-century jurist and former Chief Justice of the Michigan Supreme Court. Cooley was also a charter member, and first chairman, of the Federal Interstate Commerce Commission. Due to budget constraints and declining enrollment, Cooley High School was closed at the end of the 2009–2010 academic year. On September 30, 2017, a fire severely damaged the auditorium and surrounding rooms.
