Public Netbase
Public Netbase was a cultural media initiative, open access internet platform, media art space, and advocate for the development of electronic art. Early development Public Netbase was founded by Konrad Becker and Francisco de Sousa Webber in Vienna's Messepalast (later renamed to Museumsquartier) in 1994 as a non-profit internet provider and a platform for the participatory use and critical analyses of information and communication technology. Its parent organization was the ''Institute for New Culture Technologies-t0'', founded in 1993. Most of the Institute's activities after 1994 occurred through Public Netbase, leading to the names and establishment dates being loosely applied, even in the organization's official material. The name of its World Wide Web server, ''t0'', was often appended to either name as well. Konrad Becker (born January 9, 1959 in Vienna) is an artist, hypermedia researcher, and interdisciplinary content developer, director of the Institute for New Culture Technologies-t0 and initiator of Public Netbase and World-Information.Org. Music and acting As actor, Konrad Becker is known for his role as Böckstiegel in Wolfgang Petersen's anti-war drama Das Boot (1981). As a musician Konrad Becker created ''Monoton'', the crucial Austrian electronic music act providing distinguished soundscapes. World Summit On The Information Society
The World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) was a two-phase United Nations-sponsored summit on information, communication and, in broad terms, the information society that took place in 2003 in Geneva and in 2005 in Tunis. WSIS Forums have taken place periodically since then. One of the Summit's chief aims is to bridge the global digital divide separating rich countries from poor countries by increasing internet accessibility in the developing world. Steve Kurtz is an American artist and co-founder of the art collective Critical Art Ensemble (CAE). His work with CAE is considered pioneering in the areas of politically engaged art, interventionist practices, and cultural research and action in the field of biotechnology and ecological struggle. Brian Holmes
Brian Holmes is a professor of philosophy at the European Graduate School in Saas-Fee, Switzerland, where he teaches an intensive summer seminar. Karlsplatz
Karlsplatz () is a town square on the border of the Innere Stadt, first and Wieden, fourth districts of Vienna. It is one of the most frequented and best connected transportation hubs in Vienna.
