Public Landing, Maryland
Public Landing is an unincorporated community 6.5 miles (10 km) east of Snow Hill in Worcester County, Maryland, United States. Public Landing is located on Chincoteague Bay, at the end of Maryland Route 365. Public Landing enjoyed great popularity during the 1920s and early 1930s, when rides, a bowling alley, and other amusements were open, and the shallowness of Chincoteague Bay permitted public bathing. However, a large hurricane in 1933 destroyed Public Landing's waterfront. Snow Hill, Maryland
Snow Hill is a town and the county seat of Worcester County, Maryland, United States. The population was 2,103 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Salisbury, Maryland-Delaware Metropolitan Statistical Area. History Snow Hill was founded in 1686 in Somerset County by English settlers, who may have named it after a street and neighborhood of the City of London called " Snow Hill", despite the location's elevation of just above sea level and the infrequency of snowfall. The town received its first charter on October 26, 1686, and was made a port of entry in 1694. In 1742, Worcester County was carved out of the eastern half of old Somerset County and Snow Hill, centrally located in the new county and at the head of navigation on the Pocomoke River, was made the county seat. Mindie Burgoyne
Mindie Burgoyne is an American writer and businessperson. She works for the Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development and has written several books about the history and folklore of the Eastern Shore of Maryland. She is the founder and owner of Chesapeake Ghost Walks. Background Burgoyne has lived in the Baltimore–Washington metropolitan area for most of her life. At age 16, she composed a musical score for a promotional film, some of which was later used on national television. Since 1991, Burgoyne has led an annual archeological field trip to Ireland. Maryland Route 365
Maryland Route 365 (MD 365) is a state highway in the U.S. state of Maryland. Known for most of its length as Public Landing Road, the state highway runs from U.S. Route 113 Business (US 113 Business) in Snow Hill east to Public Landing Wharf Road at Public Landing. MD 365 was constructed between 1924 and 1929. A superstreet intersection was built at US 113 in 2015. Route description MD 365 begins at an intersection with US 113 Business (Market Street) just east of downtown Snow Hill. The state highway heads east as two-lane undivided Bay Street. Chincoteague Bay
Chincoteague Bay () is a lagoon between the Atlantic barrier islands of Assateague and Chincoteague and the mainland of Worcester County, Maryland and northern Accomack County, Virginia. At the bay's northern end, where it narrows between Assateague and Sinepuxent Neck, it becomes Sinepuxent Bay; Chincoteague Bay's southern end drains into the Atlantic Ocean via Queen Sound and Chincoteague Inlet. The Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) is a database of name and locative information about more than two million physical and cultural features throughout the United States and its territories, Antarctica, and the associated states of the Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, and Palau. It is a type of gazetteer. It was developed by the United States Geological Survey (USGS) in cooperation with the United States Board on Geographic Names (BGN) to promote the standardization of feature names.
