Konstantinos Gofas
Konstantinos Gofas ( el, Κωνσταντίνος Γκόφας, 1790 - 1865) was a Greek revolutionary leader and a soldier during the Greek War of Independence and a politician. He was born in Pteri south of Aigio and was the brother of Christos Gofas. He worked with the Petmezades and founded to preserve one of them from the Turks during the robbery of 1806. During the start of the Greek War of Independence in 1821, he participated with Dimitrios Meletopoulos and battled several battles in the Peloponnese. He took part in the Sieges of Patras, Corinth, Tripoli and the battles of Akrata, Dervenakia, Messenia, Battle of Doliana and on August 8, 1827 in Kafkaria. He discriminated from the family in which he was injured twice, in the battles of Dervenaki in 1825 and Krommydi in 1827 near Pylia. Under the deeds of those, he was awarded the Silver Aristeio. Aigio
Aigio, also written as ''Aeghion, Aegion, Aegio, Egio'' ( el, Αίγιο, Aígio, ; la, Aegium), is a town and a former municipality in Achaea, West Greece, on the Peloponnese. Since the 2011 local government reform, it is part of the municipality Aigialeia, of which it is the seat and a municipal unit. Aigio is the second largest city in Achaea after Patras. The municipal unit has an area of 151.101 km2. It has a population of around 26,000 while the municipality has about 49,000 inhabitants. Aigio is a port town on the Gulf of Corinth, and takes its name from the ancient city of Aegium. Geography The southwestern part of the municipality consists of the foothills of Panachaiko mountain. Western Greece Region ( el, Περιφέρεια Δυτικής Ελλάδας, translit=Periféria Dhitikís Elládhas, ) is one of the thirteen administrative regions of Greece. Achaea () or Achaia (), sometimes transliterated from Greek as Akhaia (, ''Akhaïa'' ), is one of the regional units of Greece. It is part of the region of Western Greece and is situated in the northwestern part of the Peloponnese peninsula. The capital is Patras which is the third largest city in Greece. Geography Achaea is bordered by Elis to the west and southwest, Arcadia to the south, and Corinthia to the east and southeast.
