Psychograss Members
Psychograss was an American Bluegrass music, bluegrass supergroup founded by fiddler Darol Anger and mandolinist Mike Marshall (musician), Mike Marshall. Anger and Marshall had been members of the David Grisman Quintet, the band Montreux (band), Montreaux, and had performed as a duo. They invited two other Grisman players, bassist Todd Phillips (musician), Todd Phillips and percussionist Joe Craven, and recorded their first album in 1993. Tim O'Brien (musician), Tim O'Brien sang on the album and Tony Trischka played banjo. Guitarist David Grier joined the band on their second album, which included a cover version of a Jimi Hendrix song. Bluegrass music is a genre of American roots music The term American folk music encompasses numerous music genres, variously known as ''traditional music'', ''traditional folk music'', ''contemporary folk music'', ''vernacular music,'' or ''roots music''. The genre derives its name from the band Bill Monroe, Bill Monroe and the Blue Grass Boys. Like Country music, mainstream country music, it largely developed out of Old-time music, old-time string music, though in contrast, bluegrass is traditionally played exclusively on Acoustic music, acoustic instruments and also has roots in traditional English, Scottish, and Irish Ballads, Irish ballads and dance tunes as well as in blues and jazz.
