Pseudotropheus Lanisticola
''Pseudotropheus'' is a genus of fishes in the family Cichlidae. These mbuna cichlids are endemic to Lake Malawi in Eastern Africa. Taxonomy Like some other large cichlid genera, such as ''Cichlasoma'', a number of related fishes have been recently reassigned to different genera such as ''Tropheops'' or ''Maylandia''. Some species of '' Melanochromis'' in turn have been moved into ''Pseudotropheus''. There are currently 25 recognized species in this genus: * ''Pseudotropheus ater'' Stauffer, 1988 * ''Pseudotropheus benetos'' ( Bowers & Stauffer, 1997) * ''Pseudotropheus brevis'' ( Trewavas, 1935) * '' Pseudotropheus crabro'' ( Ribbink & D. S. C. Lewis, 1982) * '' Pseudotropheus cyaneorhabdos'' ( Bowers & Stauffer, 1997) * ''Pseudotropheus cyaneus'' Stauffer, 1988 * ''Pseudotropheus demasoni'' Konings, 1994 * ''Pseudotropheus elegans'' Trewavas, 1935 Stauffer, J.R.Jr., Konings, A.F. & Ryan, T.M. Pseudotropheus Cyaneorhabdos
''Pseudotropheus cyaneorhabdos'' is a species of cichlid endemic to Lake Malawi where it is only known from around Likoma Island where it prefers rocky substrates at depths of from . This species can grow to a length of SL. Also known as Maingano, this mbuna is often confused with ''P. johannii''. One important distinguishing characteristic is that females are not orange, whereas female ''P. johanii'' are. Both male & female ''P. cyaneorhabdos'' are colored the same; however, males may have more intense coloring, particularly in dominant or sexually active males. Another key distinguishing feature of ''P. cyaneorhabdos'' from ''P. johannii'' is the lack of vertical stripes. The horizontal stripes of ''P. cyaneorhabdos'' have been used to study the genetic control of phenotypic traits like coloration. Adrianus Franciscus Johannes Marinus Maria Konings
Adrianus Franciscus Johannes Marinus Maria "Ad" Konings (born 11 January 1956 in Roosendaal, Netherlands) is an ichthyologist originally trained in medicine and biology. Konings is best known for his research on African rift lake cichlids. After studies in Amsterdam, he has spent most of his life in Rotterdam. Early life Konings started keeping cichlids when he was 14 years old in 1970. Soon he was breeding rare African cichlids and working as an assistant to the largest tropical fish dealer in the Netherlands. Academic studies and early career From 1974-1980 he studied medical biology at the University of Amsterdam and was awarded his Ph.D. in 1980. He chose this field despite his love of ichthyology due to a fear that if he chose the latter field he would be unemployable. From 1980-1986. he did research on lysosomal enzymes at the Erasmus University in Rotterdam. Most of this was DNA-related work (molecular biology). In 1986, Konings moved to St. Leon-Rot, Germany ...

Pseudotropheus Demasoni
''Pseudotropheus demasoni'' is a species of cichlid endemic to Lake Malawi where it is only known from the Pombo Rocks in Tanzanian waters. This species can potentially reach a maximum length of SL. It is now commonly found in the aquarium trade. Named in honor of Laif DeMason (Homestead, Florida, USA), importer, exporter, and breeder of cichlids. The color of both sexes is dark blue with black vertical stripes with alternating lighter stripes of light blue to white. Male Demasoni cichlids have egg-spots on the anal fin, while females may lack egg-spots. Males also grows to a larger maximum size than females. Stress coloration is similar to normal coloration but much paler. This species belongs to the so-called Mbuna group of haplochromine cichlids, and like most Mbuna it is highly territorial, with parental care for the offspring (maternal mouthbrooding Mouthbrooding, also known as oral incubation and buccal incubation, is the care given by some groups of animals to the ...

Pseudotropheus Crabro
''Pseudotropheus crabro'', the Bumblebee Cichlid or Hornet Cichlid, is a species of cichlid endemic to Lake Malawi where it is found in different habitats but most frequently in large caves or in the vicinity of large boulders. This species can reach a length of SL. The bumblebee cichlid has an elongate body with vertical yellow-and-black "bumblebee" bars. Juveniles are brightly colored but become darker when mature, especially for males. This fish is known for its ability to rapidly change its colors. They are mouthbrooders like many other cichlids from Lake Malawi. In their natural habitats, the bumblebee cichlid is a cleaner specialized in feeding on parasites from larger fish particularly the catfish ''Bagrus meridionalis'', which apparently recognises the species as a cleaner. Notable is that ''P. crabro'' has also been found preying upon the eggs of the ''Bagrus meridionalis'', but will change colour to a dark brown while doing so. Aquarium care In the wild, the bumbl ...
