Prêmio Jabuti For Best Comic Book
Best Comic Book is one of the categories of Prêmio Jabuti, a traditional Brazilian literature award that has been held since 1959. This category was created in 2017, after the creation of a petition headed by comic book artists Wagner Willian, Ramon Vitral and Érico Assis, which requested its creation and which had more than 2 thousand adhesions and the support of well-known artists such as Laerte Coutinho, Marcelo D'Salete and Rafael Coutinho. The first winner of the category was Gidalti Oliveira Moura Júnior with the graphic novel ''Castanha do Pará''. In 2018, Marcelo D'Salete was awarded the prize for '' Angola Janga'', and in 2019, Jefferson Costa and Rafael Calça shared the prize for '' Jeremias: Pele''. Prêmio Jabuti
The Prêmio Jabuti (the "Tortoise Prize") is the most traditional literary award in Brazil, given by the Brazilian Book Chamber (CBL). It was conceived by Edgard Cavalheiro in 1959 when he presided over the CBL, with the interest of rewarding authors, editors, illustrators, graphics and booksellers who stood out each year. In 1959, there were only seven categories: Literature, Cover, Illustration, Editor of the Year, Chart of the Year, Bookseller of the Year and Literary Personality. Subsequently, the award incorporated other categories involving the creation and production of books, such as Adaptation, Graphic Design and Translation. In addition to the traditional categories such as Romance, Tales and Chronicles, Poetry, Children's, Youth, Reportage and Biography. Laerte Coutinho
Laerte Coutinho (born 10 June 1951), known mainly as simply Laerte, is a Brazilian cartoonist and screenwriter, known for creating comic strips such as ''Piratas do Tietê'' (''Pirates of the Tietê River''). She was part of the Brazilian underground comics scene of the 1980s. Together with Angeli and Glauco (and later Adão Iturrusgarai) she drew the collaborative comic strip '. She has done work for publications such as ''Balão'', '' O Pasquim'', and ''Chiclete com Banana'' magazines, and draws regularly for ''Folha de S. Paulo'' newspaper. Since the mid 2000s, her strips have become more "philosophical" and less humor-focused, relying less on recurring characters. She is a transgender woman. Marcelo D'Salete
Marcelo D'Salete (born 1979) is a Brazilian comic book writer, illustrator and professor. He holds a master's degree in art history from the University of São Paulo. During his adolescence, he studied graphic design at Carlos de Campos College and worked as an illustrator for publishers. He premiered as a comic book artist in 2001, publishing in the magazines ''Quadreca'' and ''Front''. His first graphic novel,'' Noite Luz'', was published in 2008. In 2011, he published the comic book'' Encruzilhada''. His most acclaimed works deal with the history of resistance to slavery in Brazil from the perspective of the Afro-Brazilian peoples: ''Cumbe'', from 2014, and ''Angola Janga'' from 2017. Rafael Coutinho
Rafael dos Santos Coutinho (born January 28, 1980, in São Paulo) is a Brazilian comics artist, painter and animator. Early life and education Coutinho was born on January 28, 1980, the city of São Paulo. He studied Arts at São Paulo State University (UNESP). During his studies in 2003, part of his work from a plastic art course were featured in a city-wide advertisement campaign in São Paulo. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in 2004. Career Coutinho started his professional career at 16 years old, as ''storyboard'' artist for Laís Bodanzky's 2001 film '' Brainstorm''. Universo HQ ("Comics Universe") is a Brazilian website about comics and considered the most important Brazilian information source on comics-related news. History Universo HQ was created by Samir Naliato and first aired on January 5, 2000. After six months, he invited the journalist Sidney Gusman to become the website's editor. Gusman also invited Sérgio Codespoti and Marcelo Naranjo to work with them, followed by many different collaborators during the years. Angola Janga (comics)
Palmares, or Quilombo dos Palmares, was a '' quilombo'', a community of escaped slaves and others, in colonial Brazil that developed from 1605 until its suppression in 1694. It was located in the captaincy of Pernambuco, in what is today the Brazilian state of Alagoas. The quilombo was located in what is now the municipality of União dos Palmares. Background The modern tradition has been to call the community the ''Quilombo of Palmares''. '' Quilombos'' were settlements mainly of survivors and free-born enslaved African people. The ''quilombos'' came into existence when Africans began arriving in Brazil in the mid-1530s and grew significantly as slavery expanded. Jefferson Costa (São Paulo, 1979) is a Brazilian illustrator and comics artist. He has worked in several comic books, such as the adaptation of the book '' Kiss Me, Judas'', as well as publications such as ''Quebra Queixo Technorama'', ''A Dama do Martinelli'' and ''La Dansarina'' and works in Brazilian compilations ''Front'' and ''Bang Bang''.
