Holly Herndon
Holly Herndon (born 1980) is an American composer, musician, sound artist and sound designer based in Berlin, Germany. After studying composition at Stanford University and completing her Ph.D. at Stanford University's Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics, she pursued a music career internationally. Herndon's music often includes human singing voices (including her own), is primarily computer-based, and regularly uses the visual programming language Max (software), Max/MSP to create custom instruments and vocal processes. A DVD magazine under the ''Uncut'' brand was published quarterly from 2005 to 2006. Jerrilynn Patton (born July 30, 1987), known as Jlin, is an electronic musician. She began producing music in 2008 and received early attention for her 2011 track "Erotic Heat". Jlin's debut album, ''Dark Energy'', was released in 2015 to critical praise. Her follow-up ''Black Origami'' (2017) received further acclaim. Biography Patton was raised in Gary, Indiana. Growing up, she was exposed to music through her parents, and her favorite artists were Anita Baker, Rachelle Ferrell, and Sade. She also heard footwork at an early age. Martine Syms
Martine Syms (born 1988) is an American artist based in Los Angeles who works in publishing, video, installation, and performance. Her work focuses on identity and the portrayal of the self in relation to themes such as feminism and Black culture. This is often explored through humour and social commentary. Syms coined the term "conceptual entrepreneur" in 2007 to characterize her practice. Early life Martine Syms was born in Los Angeles in 1988.
