Protect Our Winters (POW) is a 501(c)(3) organization, 501(c)(3) Nonprofit organization, nonprofit organisation that focuses on law reform for environmental issues and civic engagement campaigns such as sharing news from climate scientists. The organization's headquarters are located in Boulder, Colorado, United States. According to the nonprofit's policy webpage, POW focuses its efforts on legislation regarding carbon price, carbon pricing, solar, public lands, and transportation. POW receives financial support from The North Face, Patagonia (clothing), Patagonia and Clif Bar, CLIF Bar and many other corporate companies, partners, foundations, individuals and resorts. Patagonia, Inc. is an American retailer of outdoor clothing. It was founded by Yvon Chouinard in 1973 and is based in Ventura, California. Patagonia operates stores in 10+ countries globally, as well as factories in 16 countries. History Yvon Chouinard, an accomplished rock climber, began selling hand-forged mountain climbing gear in 1957 through his company Chouinard Equipment. 2014 UN Climate Summit
The Climate Summit 2014 (sometimes also referred to as the Leader's Climate Summit) was a meeting on climate change in New York on September 23, 2014. UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon announced it in September 2013 and invited leaders of governments, the private sector, and civil society to unite in taking concrete action towards a low-carbon emission world. The Climate Summit 2014's focus was on initiatives and actions rather than on negotiations between countries. It was seen as a milestone towards closing the ''emissions gap'' between reduction pledges and the necessary emission cuts for the 2 °C scenario (with "pursue efforts to" limit the temperature increase to 1.5 °C). Regina McCarthy (born May 3, 1954) is an American air quality expert who served as the first White House national climate advisor from 2021 to 2022. She previously served as the thirteenth Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency from 2013 to 2017. A Massachusetts native, McCarthy holds degrees from the University of Massachusetts Boston and Tufts University. From October 1 to October 17, 2013, the United States federal government entered a shutdown and curtailed most routine operations because neither legislation appropriating funds for fiscal year 2014 nor a continuing resolution for the interim authorization of appropriations for fiscal year 2014 was enacted in time. Regular government operations resumed October 17 after an interim appropriations bill was signed into law. During the shutdown, approximately 800,000 federal employees were indefinitely furloughed, and another 1.3 million were required to report to work without known payment dates.
