A prospective cohort study is a type of study, e.g., in sociology or medicine, that follows participants for a particular future time period. It may also refer to the following: * Prospective aspect, a grammatical aspect * Prospective Dolly (born 1987), Thoroughbred racehorse * Prospective memory, remembering to perform an intended action * Prospective parliamentary candidate, a term used in British politics * Prospective Piloted Transport System, a project to develop a new-generation crewed spacecraft * Prospective search, a method of searching on the Internet * Prospective short-circuit current, the highest electric current which can exist in a particular electrical system under short circuit conditions * Prospective payment system, a payment model used in health care to control costs See also * Retro ...

Prospective Cohort Study
A prospective cohort study is a longitudinal cohort study that follows over time a group of similar individuals (cohorts) who differ with respect to certain factors under study, to determine how these factors affect rates of a certain outcome. For example, one might follow a cohort of middle-aged truck drivers who vary in terms of smoking habits, to test the hypothesis that the 20-year incidence rate of lung cancer will be highest among heavy smokers, followed by moderate smokers, and then nonsmokers. The prospective study is important for research on the etiology of diseases and disorders. The distinguishing feature of a prospective cohort study is that at the time that the investigators begin enrolling subjects and collecting baseline exposure information, none of the subjects have developed any of the outcomes of interest. After baseline information is collected, subjects in a prospective cohort study are then followed "longitudinally," i.e. over a period of time, usually for ...

Prospective Aspect
In linguistics, the prospective aspect (abbreviated or ) is a grammatical aspect describing an event that occurs subsequent to a given reference time.Matthews, P. H. (1997) The Concise Oxford Dictionary of Linguistics. Oxford: Oxford University Press. One way to view tenses in English and many other languages is as a combination of a reference time (past, present, or future) in which a situation takes place, and the time of a particular event relative to the reference time (before, at, or after). As an example, consider the following sentence: *When I got home yesterday, John called and said he would arrive soon. The verb ''would arrive'' expresses a combination of past reference time (the situation of my getting home, established as being in the past by the introductory clause) and an event (John's arrival) whose time of occurrence is subsequent to the reference time. Technically, this verb is said to be ''past tense, prospective aspect'', with the tense expressing the time of t ...

Prospective Memory
Prospective memory is a form of memory that involves remembering to perform a planned action or recall a planned intention at some future point in time.McDaniel, M. A., & Einstein, G. O. (2007). ''Prospective memory: An overview and synthesis of an emerging field ''. Sage Publications Ltd. Prospective memory tasks are common in daily life and range from the relatively simple to extreme life-or-death situations.Levent. A & Davelaar E.J. (2019) Illegal drug use and prospective memory: A systematic review. Drug and Alcohol Dependence, 204, 107478. https://doi.org/10.1016/j.drugalcdep.2019.04.042 Examples of simple tasks include remembering to put the toothpaste cap back on, remembering to reply to an email, or remembering to return a rented movie. Examples of highly important situations include a patient remembering to take medication or a pilot remembering to perform specific safety procedures during a flight. In contrast to prospective memory, retrospective memory involves rememberi ...

Prospective Piloted Transport System
Orel (russian: Орёл, , Eagle) or Oryol, formerly Federation (russian: Федерация, Federatsiya}), and PPPTS (russian: Перспективная Портативный Пилотируемая Транспортная Система, Perspektivnaya Portativnyy Pilotiruemaya Transportnaya Sistema, Prospective Portable Piloted Transport System), is a project by Roscosmos to develop a new-generation, partially reusable crewed spacecraft. Until 2016, the official name was (russian: Пилотируемый Транспортный Корабль Нового Поколения, , New Generation Piloted Transport Ship) or PTK NP. The goal of the project is to develop a next-generation spacecraft to replace the Soyuz spacecraft developed by the former Soviet Union to support low Earth orbit and lunar operations. It is similar in function to the US Orion or Commercial Crew Development spacecraft. The PPPTS project was started following a failed attempt by Russia and the E ...

Prospective Search
Prospective search, or persistent search, is a method of searching which determines which of a set of queries matches content in a corpus. Other names include document routing and percolate queries. It is sometimes called reverse search, but that can also refer to finding documents similar to a given document. This differs from traditional, or "retrospective", search such as search engines, where the information for the results is acquired and then queried. Comparison to retrospective search Ordinary search, also called retrospective search, starts by gathering information, indexing it, then letting users query it. A query produces results if the information is in the corpus at the time the query is issued. In contrast, prospective search starts with the user's queries, gathers the information in a targeted way, indexes it, and then provides results as they arrive. That is, a query produces results when new information that matches it is added to the corpus. Sometimes Ping Se ...

Prospective Short-circuit Current
The prospective short-circuit current (PSCC), available fault current, or short-circuit making current is the highest electric current which can exist in a particular electrical system under short-circuit conditions. It is determined by the voltage and impedance of the supply system. It is of the order of a few thousand amperes for a standard domestic mains electrical installation, but may be as low as a few milliamperes in a separated extra-low voltage (SELV) system or as high as hundreds of thousands of amps in large industrial power systems. Protective devices such as circuit breakers and fuses must be selected with an interrupting rating that exceeds the prospective short-circuit current, if they are to safely protect the circuit from a fault. When a large electric current is interrupted an arc forms, and if the breaking capacity of a fuse or circuit breaker is exceeded, it will not extinguish the arc. Current will continue, resulting in damage to equipment, fire, or expl ...

Prospective Payment System
A prospective payment system (PPS) is a term used to refer to several payment methodologies for which means of determining insurance reimbursement is based on a predetermined payment regardless of the intensity of the actual service provided. It includes a system for paying hospitals based on predetermined prices, from Medicare. Payments are typically based on codes provided on the insurance claim such as these: * Diagnosis-related groups for hospital inpatient claims * Ambulatory Payment Classification for hospital outpatient claims * Current Procedural Terminology for other outpatient claims The PPS was established by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), as a result of the Social Security Amendments Act of 1983, specifically to address expensive hospital care. Regardless of services provided, payment was of an established fee. The idea was to encourage hospitals to lower their prices for expensive hospital care. In 2000, CMS changed the reimbursement system ...
