Promises (Basia Song)
"Promises" is a song by Polish singer Basia from her debut studio album '' Time and Tide'', released in 1987. The track was written by Basia Trzetrzelewska, Danny White, and Peter Ross of Immaculate Fools. It was produced by Danny and Basia, and is a samba-influenced jazz-pop song. The single was first a minor hit in the UK in January 1988. In 1989, "Promises" charted in the USA, where remixes of the song by Justin Strauss were released on a 12" maxi single. Music videos The first music video for the song pictures Basia on a balcony in the middle of a three-storey building, with shadows of the building's inhabitants showing in the windows. She performs the song as the residents go about their everyday lives. The second clip was filmed in 1989 by Crescenzo Notarile and is a performance music video. She began singing professionally in various Polish bands from the late 1960s throughout the 1970s, then relocated to the UK in 1981. She rose to fame as a singer in the British trio Matt Bianco. By 1986, Basia and her bandmate Danny White had left the group to focus on her solo career. She signed on with Epic Records and enjoyed a successful international career between 1987 and 1995, particularly in the USA where her first two albums '' Time and Tide'' and ''London Warsaw New York'' were platinum-certified, million-unit sellers. It catalogs more than three million album entries and 30 million tracks, as well as information on musicians and bands. In popular music, a cover version, cover song, remake, revival, or simply cover, is a new performance or recording by a musician other than the original performer or composer of the song. Originally, it referred to a version of a song released around the same time as the original in order to compete with it. Now, it refers to any subsequent version performed after the original. Julie Dexter is a British singer, songwriter and producer, whose music spans the categories of jazz, soul and reggae. She was born and raised in Birmingham, England, and has been based in the United States since 1999. Rosa Vicenta Montserrat Coscolín Figueras (28 October 1922 – 4 December 2005) known professionally as Gloria Lasso was a Spanish-born canción melódica singer, long based in France.
