Promises, Promises (musical)
''Promises, Promises'' is a musical with music by Burt Bacharach, lyrics by Hal David and a book by Neil Simon. It is based on the 1960 film ''The Apartment'' written by Billy Wilder and I. A. L. Diamond. The story concerns a junior executive at an insurance company who seeks to climb the corporate ladder by allowing his apartment to be used by his married superiors for trysts. The musical premiered in 1968 on Broadway with choreography by Michael Bennett and direction by Robert Moore. It starred Jerry Orbach as Chuck Baxter and Jill O'Hara as Fran Kubelik. It closed after 1,281 performances. A West End production opened in 1969 featuring Tony Roberts and Betty Buckley. The cast album was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album, and two songs from the show (the title tune and "I'll Never Fall in Love Again") became hit singles for Dionne Warwick. ''You've Got to Laugh'' is the seventh studio album by Nik Kershaw, released on 26 October 2006 under his own record label. Initially at least, the album is only available for purchase online vihis web sitethrough his own studio, Shorthouse Records. The album is also available for a digital download via iTunes or eMusic. In a 2008 interview, Kershaw spoke of the album. "''You've Got to Laugh'' took about five years to get together. That wasn't intense recording, obviously. I just waited until I'd got enough tracks and that was the time to release it. Had it not been for my girlfriend, it probably wouldn't have been released at all. The Beacon Street Girls (BSG) is a young adult fiction, young adult book series by Annie Bryant. The series was created by Addie Swartz and initially published by B*tween Productions, then licensed by Simon & Schuster. Author "Annie Bryant" is a pseudonym for a group of writers who wrote the Beacon Street Girls books. The series was edited by Roberta MacPhee. Background The Beacon Street Girls brand started in 2003 by entrepreneur Addie Swartz. It comprised a book series, branded gifts and a website, all aimed at creating healthier role models and more positive messages for pre-teen girls. ''Promises! Promises!'' (presented as ''Promises... Promises!'' on screen) is a 1963 American sex comedy film directed by King Donovan and starring Tommy Noonan (who also served as coproducer) and Jayne Mansfield. Released at the end of the Production Code era and before the MPAA film rating system became effective in 1968, it was the first Hollywood film of the sound era to feature nudity by a mainstream star (Mansfield). Plot Sandy Brooks is desperate to become pregnant, but her husband Jeff, a television script writer, is too stressed to make love to her. They take a pleasure cruise and meet Claire and King Banner.
