Promised Land (2004 Film)
''Promised Land'' (Hebrew הארץ המובטחת) is a 2004 Cinema of France, French-Cinema of Israel, Israeli film, directed by Amos Gitai and starring Rosamund Pike, Diana Bespechni, and Hanna Schygulla. It tells the story of a group of East European girls smuggled into Israel to serve as prostitutes. The film is the first of Gitai's "Frontier" trilogy and premiered at the Venice Film Festival. Director Gitai commented on the film: "If I have succeeded in spoiling even one man's appetite, and causing him to stop going to prostitutes - then I feel I have succeeded in doing something." Synopsis The film opens at night in the Sinai Peninsula, Sinai desert. Under the moonlight, a group of men and women warm themselves around a campfire. Amos Gitaï
Amos Gitai ( he, עמוס גיתאי; born 11 October 1950) is an Israelis, Israeli filmmaker, who was trained as an architect. Gitai's work was presented in several major retrospectives in Pompidou Center in Paris, the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) and Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, Lincoln Center in New York, and the British Film Institute in London. To date, Amos Gitai has created over 90 works of art, including a wide variety of formats such as feature and short films, fiction and documentaries, experimental work, television productions, installations and theater works. Sinai Peninsula
The Sinai Peninsula, or simply Sinai (now usually ) (, , cop, Ⲥⲓⲛⲁ), is a peninsula in Egypt, and the only part of the country located in Asia.
