Progressive Labour Party (Saint Lucia)
The Progressive Labour Party was a political party in Saint Lucia. History The party was created by a split of the Saint Lucia Labour Party in 1981. It first contested national elections in 1982, when it finished second behind the United Workers' Party with 27.1% of the vote, but only won a single seat, taken by Jon Odlum. In the 6 April 1987 elections the party's vote share fell to 9.3% and they lost their single seat. Saint Lucia ( acf, Sent Lisi, french: Sainte-Lucie) is an island country of the West Indies in the eastern Caribbean. The island was previously called Iouanalao and later Hewanorra, names given by the native Arawaks and Caribs, two Amerindian peoples. Part of the Windward Islands of the Lesser Antilles, it is located north/northeast of the island of Saint Vincent (Antilles), Saint Vincent, northwest of Barbados and south of Martinique. United Workers' Party (Saint Lucia)
The United Workers Party is a conservative political party in Saint Lucia currently led by former Tourism Minister Allen Chastanet, who defeated former Prime Minister Stephenson King in a July 28, 2013 leadership election. Jon Odlum
Stanley Nicholas Jon Odlum (9 May 1936 – 19 February 2013) was a Saint Lucian politician. Originated from the Saint Lucia Labour Party. Was also a member of the now defunct Progressive Labor Party, led by his brother George Odlum George William Odlum (24 June 1934 – 28 September 2003) was a Saint Lucian left-wing politician who served as Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister. Born in Castries, Odlum studied at Bristol University and Oxford University in the United ..., he was the party's sole successful Parliamentary candidate in 1982. He was made a Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Health, Human Services and Family Affairs on 10 December 2001.
