Progressive British Muslims (PBM) was a group of Liberal British Muslims that formed following the London terrorist attacks of 7 July 2005. The organization was founded by Farmida Bi, a candidate for a parliamentary seat representing Mole Valley, three days after the attacks on 10 July 2005. Liberalism and progressivism within Islam involve professed Muslims who have created a considerable body of progressive thought about Islamic understanding and practice. 7 July 2005 London Bombings
The 7 July 2005 London bombings, often referred to as 7/7, were a series of four coordinated suicide attacks carried out by Islamic terrorists in London that targeted commuters travelling on the city's public transport system during the morning rush hour. Three terrorists separately detonated three homemade bombs in quick succession aboard London Underground trains across the city and, later, a fourth terrorist detonated another bomb on a double-decker bus in Tavistock Square. The train bombings occurred on the Circle line near and at Edgware Road, and on the Piccadilly line near . Farmida Bi
Farmida Bi (born 2 September 1967) is a British corporate solicitor and the EMEA Chair of Norton Rose Fulbright, having also served as Global Chair in 2022. She is the United Kingdom's first female chair of a major law firm, and has been named one of Britain's top five most powerful Muslim women. She stood as a Labour Party candidate in two elections, and founded Progressive British Muslims three days after the 7/7 London bombings. She was appointed a CBE in the 2020 Birthday Honours for services to Law and charity. Early life and education Bi was born in Pakistan, and moved to the United Kingdom at the age of six.
