Professor Balthazar
''Professor Balthazar'' ( hr, Profesor Baltazar) is a Croatian animated television series for children about an old inventor that was produced between 1967 and 1978. It was created by animator Zlatko Grgić. The series revolves around benevolent genius Professor Balthazar. In each episode, someone in his surroundings has a problem, which he duly considers and invariably finds a solution to. He then activates a magical machine and produces an invention that will solve the problem. The characters of the series do not speak in any intelligible language, and the plot of the episodes is instead recounted by a narrator in voice-over. History The series was created for television by the Croatian animator Zlatko Grgić at the Zagreb Film studio. Fifty-nine episodes of the cartoon were made between 1967 and 1978. ''Nacional'' is a Croatian weekly news magazine published in Zagreb. Founded in 1995 and owned by photographer and journalist Ivo Pukanić, ''Nacional'' quickly gained a reputation for reporting and critical articles about the conservative government led by the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ), which was in power during the 1990s. During most of its existence its main rival was ''Globus'' published by Europapress Holding (EPH). History ''Nacional'' was launched in 1995 by Denis Kuljiš, Ivo Pukanić and other prominent journalists dissatisfied with the editorial policies of then popular weekly ''Globus''. Soon a bitter competition developed between two magazines, because they tried to grab the same readership and used the same techniques of investigative journalism. Zlatko Bourek (4 September 1929 – 11 May 2018) was a Croatian-Jewish film director, screenwriter, production designer, cartoonist and expert on Jewish culture. Bourek was born in Požega. He was raised in Osijek, where he moved at the age of 4, by his Jewish mother and Serbian stepfather. Bourek graduated sculpture and painting at the Academy of Dramatic Art, University of Zagreb in 1955. During his career he made several theater set designs, and had many solo and group exhibitions.
