Professional Squash Association
The Professional Squash Association (PSA) is the governing body for the men's and women's professional squash circuit. The body operates in a similar fashion to the ATP and the WTA for tennis. The PSA's highest professional level, the PSA World Tour involves over 200 tournaments annually around the world. Over 800 players from all the 5 continents (over 60 different countries represented ) are registered with the PSA and rankings are updated monthly based on players' performances. Squash (sport)
Squash is a racket-and- ball sport played by two or four players in a four-walled court with a small, hollow, rubber ball. The players alternate in striking the ball with their rackets onto the playable surfaces of the four walls of the court. The objective of the game is to hit the ball in such a way that the opponent is not able to play a valid return. 2022 PSA Men's World Squash Championship
The 2022 PSA Men's World Squash Championship was the 2022 men's edition of the World Squash Championships, which served as the individual world championship for squash (sport), squash players. The event took place in Cairo, Egypt from 13 to 22 May 2022. It was the fifth time that Cairo host the PSA World Championships after 1985 Men's World Open Squash Championship, 1985, 1999 Men's World Open Squash Championship, 1999, 2006 Men's World Open Squash Championship, 2006 & 2016 Men's World Open Squash Championship, 2016 editions. World Open (squash)
The World Squash Championships are squash events for men and women organised by the Professional Squash Association. The men's event was first held in 1976 in London, England and the women's was inaugurated in 1976 in Brisbane, Australia. Overview The British Open had for many years been generally considered to be the sport's effective world championship, and this continued to be the case until the World Open (now called World Championship) was established. The women's World Championship was held once every two years until the early 1990s, when it became an annual event. The men's event has been held every year since 1976, except for a two-year gap in 2000 and 2001 when it was not held due primarily to difficulties in securing sponsorship. Women's Squash Association
The Women's Squash Association (WSA) was the governing body for the women's professional squash circuit between 2011 and 2014. It was based in London, England. The body operated in a similar fashion to the WTA for tennis. The WSA World Tour involved over 100 tournaments annually all over the globe. Over 250 players were registered with the WSA and rankings were updated monthly based on players' performances. In November 2014, the WSA and the PSA announced a historic merger between the two associations. A decision was reached that will see the PSA operate as the governing body for both the women's and men's ranks from January 1, 2015. US Pro Squash Series
The U.S. Pro Squash Series is a series of irregular number of tournaments the PSA World Tour, which will be held under the ongoing season in the United States. In January 2013, the Professional Squash Association announced along with U.S. Squash, to create a new tournament series called the US Pro Squash Series. Similar to the U.S. Open Series in tennis, this tournament series is used to support marketing activities for tournaments in the United States. For tournament series includes all PSA tournaments in the categories PSA Challenger and International on U.S. soil. Depending on the performance on these tournaments, players receive a certain score. At the end of the season, the three players are rewarded with the highest accumulated score with an additional prize money. PSA World Series Finals
The PSA World Tour Finals is the end of season championship of the PSA World Tour of male and female professional squash players. The top eight players in the current PSA World Tour is qualified for the event. The eight players compete in two groups of four and play a round robin to determine the semi-finalists. The competition then becomes a knock-out competition to determine the World Series Finals champions. The event has been staged since 1993 in Zurich, Hatfield, London and Manchester and then London again before switching to Dubai in 2016. The event has prize money of $160,000. In 2012 the event added a women's section 2011 and 2013 has seen the women compete again during the day session, with the men competing in the evening session. Prize Money
Prize money refers in particular to naval prize money, usually arising in naval warfare, but also in other circumstances. It was a monetary reward paid in accordance with the prize law of a belligerent state to the crew of a ship belonging to the state, either a warship of its navy or a privateer vessel commissioned by the state.
